Addressing Envelopes with Silhouette

FutureMrsHeath, on August 19, 2016 at 1:06 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6

I'm wondering if anyone has used a Silhouette (I have the Cameo) to address envelopes? I've just purchased a pen adapter for it (the Amy Chomas one) and wondered what pens you used, how well they worked, etc.

I don't like the way the actual Silhouette sketch pens work, which is why I started looking into alternatives.

Depending on how you want your letters to look, I liked working with Sakura gelly roll pens or regular gel pens you can buy in staples. I have the silhouette pen holders I noticed the "sketch pen" setting uses too much force for that type of pen; it knocked it out of the holder. Hopefully the Amy Chomas version is better.

I didn't even know Silhouettes could do that (I have the portrait)! Totally going to look into that but I have only used it for cutting planner stickers haha. Good luck!

Thanks MissZee, I'll definitely try the gelly pens, and will definitely try out different settings...thanks for the head up on that.

@tinybutfeisty I can't speak for the portrait, Silhouette sells sketch pens, however they sometimes skip and I don't like the results. Apparently Silhouette makes their own pen adaptor where you can use regular pens, etc, which I haven't tried--but didn't hear great things about it.

I just did this!!!! I used the gelly roll pens...it skipped at first, so I lost a couple of envelopes, but once it got started it worked quite well. If I were doing it again though, I would probably not use a gel pen. You can use any pen you want and just wrap electrical tape or something around it to make it thick enough to be held...

UPDATE: So I got the Amy Chomas adapter from Amazon (yay for Prime shipping) and after fiddling with some fonts, I have begun addressing my envelopes.

It's amazing! I ended up using a 03 Micron pen, and I've only had a couple of ones where the pen dragged across the paper--ultimately I just needed to readjust the tightness.

So far I've been switching between 3 pens, because they start to dry out, although after you put the cap back on and leave them alone for a while they get juicy again.
