Addressing envelopes

Originally I was going to get invites from this site but I just don’t like them a ton and Zazzle has great ones for less money. Problem is they don’t address them for you as the wedding sites do. They will print the return address on much nicer envelopes than here and the rsvp envelope just not the recipient on front of the invite envelope. So, my question is, does it look dumb or is it silly to purchase a pretty envelope with my return address already pre-printed in nice print on the back if I’m just gonna hand write the front of it with my sloppy writing? I’ve always been told that I have a really poor writing and to top it off I don’t have a job where I write anymore as I’m on the computer all day so it’s pretty bad. I do understand it’s proper etiquette and nicer to hand write things but if you’re going to spend all this money and time getting a really nice elegant invite why destroy it was sloppy handwriting, but I’m also aware people just throw these away so I’m not really sure what to do. What are other people doing.? I thought about trying to print them on my printer but I think it’s just going to destroy the envelope. I’m also wondering is it tacky for me not to have an inner envelope especially if the post office destroys the outside one in transit? I don’t really see that any of these sites are offering an inner envelope. I’m just wondering if that’s kind of gone by the wayside unless you’re ordering from a really nice company.

I would say printing is safer to ensure your invitations do not get lost in the mail if your handwriting is that bad. If you have a half decent printer at home then it is possible to print addresses on envelopes and have them turn out nicely using the mail merge feature in Microsoft Word. Is that an option for you? You can probably get this done at Staples or another print store as well for a reasonable price.

For clarification, I am recommending you buy the nicer envelopes from Zazzle and suggesting a couple ways you can get the addresses printed on them

I did exactly that: had return address pre-printed and handwrote the addresses. I have horrible handwriting so I just took my time addressing them and did them across a few days. No one pays attention to the envelope

We bought a stamp for our return address and we ordered labels from Zazzle where I put in all the info for everyone so they can pre-printed. It saved a lot of time because I could just slap the labels on the envelopes and it looked nicer than handwriting

Thanks Grace! I will aim for trying our home printer if it doesn’t wrinkle or crease the envelope and if that doesn’t work I’ll aim for a store like you suggested. Thanks!

Thanks Hannah! Right, they just throw it away lol. Did you do cursive for the name and then print the address not in cursive?

We were able to find a really great stationer in our city that does invitations at a reasonable cost and also offers printing the guest addresses on the envelope. We actually did not do an inner and outer envelope - just one envelope - and they still came out fantastic! So much so that we had so many compliments from guests on our invitations! I’d say keep looking for someone that would do this for you guys. My fiancé and I both have terrible handwriting, so we did not have to worry about addressing the envelopes badly and also that took a huge chunk of work out. All we had to do was stuff the envelopes.

Haha if I did cursive, it would have been totally illegible.

Theres a really simple solution- print the mailing addresses on labels rather than directly on the envelope. Unless you are opposed to having a white label on your envelope.

But as an addition, I wouldn't worry about the inner/outer envelope thing. No one will care or remember. Your parents might save the invitation, but for everyone else it will just go in the trash when the wedding is over, and the envelope(s) will almost immediately go in the trash.

You could try looking for a calligrapher near by. I also like the idea of having labels printed. You could customize the font or any additional elements to make them look nice, and then it's just sticking them on all the envelopes.

Either way it's not something to lose sleep over. The envelope gets thrown away once it's been opened, after the wedding guests toss the invite, and I doubt anyone is going to bring the invite/ envelope to the wedding to compare it to the decorations or formality level or anything (and if they do then they have much bigger issues than an invitation or envelope lol).

I ordered Invitations from Magnet Street and they did not come addressed to the recipients, I have awful hand writing so I just ordered pretty address labels from Avrey, spent about $15 bucks and they came out nice!

I find it very difficult to believe that handwriting makes the envelope undeliverable. I have been on the opposite side as a guest many times where labels were printed at home and they smeared terribly in the elements so that some guests didn’t receive an invitation at all and others were sent to wrong addresses. We will take the time to handwrite them. Plus, no one pays that much attention to the envelope beyond looking to who it’s addressed to. And it’s nice to get mail that isn’t bills or spam.

Hi, I ordered my save the dates via Zazzle. Beautiful and simplistic cards chosen. I totally forgot about addressing with our names and the recipients names on the ordered envelopes. I did not want to write on the envelopes…not with my handwriting. Bought a printer, translucent address strips from Avery, customized the address strips on the Avery website and bomb, super amazing address labels!

Avery is awesome! I bought the translucent labels, customized, and then printed at home for no additional cost!

You can buy labels that are "clear" so they won't show as much on envelopes!
