Addressing outer envelopes...hand written or printed?

elyse, on April 20, 2011 at 10:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 24

What did everyone do for their invitation envelopes? If you printed them, did you do it yourself or did you get it done? If you got it done, where is a good place to get them printed for a good price?

I printed them myself at home. If you have the Internet and a printer, you can buy labels for about $5 and it will tell you how to download the template for the labels and you can input them in yourself and print it out.

I have printed mine using my personal computer. My handwriting isn't the greatest and certainly isn't uniform which is what I was looking for. Depends on the number of addresses you need to write!

I am handwriting the outer envelopes, but I did have the return envelopes for the RSVP's printed with our address. I ordered my invitations from annsbridalbargains.com and they have the option to print your envelopes for a decent price. Smiley smile

My own printer is totally a piece of junk. I may be able to use my mom's or a friends but we are probably looking at about 75 invites to address (plus the inner envelopes). My aunt is very good at calligraphy but I don't want to give her carpel tunnel on my account. I was thinking of trying to take them somewhere to have the outer envelopes printed then ask her just to do the inner ones.

I hand wrote mine, but I only mailed 27 invitations. It would have taken me longer to type them out to print...

I actually set up an Excel Spreadsheet to make a mail merge that would print them all for me, but didn't end up using it. I will use it when I send out the invites for our at home party afterwards.

My hard writing is crap (worse than a dr.'s, i cant even read it alot of the time) and i dont want to spend the money on a calligrapher because that can get really costly, even if it makes it super formal and pretty. Like mrs.hardcastle said, im printing them at home. Go to office max or office depot and get some address labels and find a pretty font. any guest who wants to be snooty about not receiving a handwritten invitation or wants to talk down about ym stuff should have offered to pay for it Smiley smile

Mine were hadwritten by my BFF and she used a calligraphy pen. She did a really nice job , the envelops looked like I had them professionaly done. She actually saved the day and saved me money , I was planning to pay and have them professionally done but they were not going to be back in the time I wanted and were going to charge an additional ridiculous rush fee of $80.

I just sent mine, and ended up doing a mixture - some handwritten, some not, but only because I ran out of printable labels, lol.

No one really checks that crap. Who remembers the way the last wedding invite they got was addressed?

We are using labels that I printed from the computer. Easy and inexpensive.

My cousin had my Mom write all the envelopes, she has very nice handwriting and I'll probably do the same.

My BFF is doing my invitations for me, and she will address all the invitations on her computer in the specific font to match my invitations.

The outer envelope should be hand addressed, but the rsvp are fine to be pre-printed or labels...

I'm handwriting mine as well. I'm considering writing a bunch of stuff out in my own handwriting and then scanning them in so that anything that's not printed will be consistent. I hand wrote all the STD envelopes, but I need a better pen for the actual invites. I don't have great handwriting, but it's legible. I like the personal touch.

While I know what ettiquette dictates, I cannot sit around and write the invites, and calligraphy was not within my budget. With the rule of no abbreviations, by the time I would spell out all those darn names, I knew my hands simply couldn't handle it. So, I printed them on clear labels in a lovely calligraphy font. I will hand write the inner envelopes. And, there is no question that I will hand write all welcome cards for the welcome bags and thank you cards for gifts.

    @Shana....Good idea on scanning!

FH's sister did ours, but I have a few last minute additions I will likely do myself - and I hate my own handwriting. But, I am not confused thinking I need calligraphy because nobody needs it; it's an extra touch. Just a nice legible handwriting is all that is needed so that the post office can deliver the invitation to the proper address.
