Adult Ring Bearer?

FutureMrsB, on August 23, 2018 at 2:55 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 2 26

This past weekend my uncle, who is like a second father started asking me questions about my wedding. He asked what he had to wear since he wasn't going to be in the bridal party. So I told him and then he came up with a wild idea of him being the ring bearer.

Honestly, we don't have any kids to do it and you see grandmothers as flower girls all the time. I was thinking I could make him dress like he is "Ring Security" and kind of make it a fun thing.

Has anyone had an adult ring bearer before?

Eh, I’d find it a little odd. But it’s your wedding, so go for it if you want.

I would also find it odd, but you know your guests better than anyone on here. The fact that he's so close to you makes me lean towards being more accepting of it- if you're okay with it. If you think your guests know who he is and how much he means to you and won't interpret it as a weird "adult doing a kid thing" and you want him involved, go for it! I think I'm just prejudiced because I can't visualize it lol

Guests are a lot less inclined to criticize every departure from tradition than you think. And if they are, you don't need to pay attention to gripes about something that doesn't affect them one iota. If both he and you like the idea, I'd say to go for it.

Our flower girl will be almost two when we get married, so were having fh's grandma (her great grandma) walk her down the aisle. We dont have any little boys in the family, so were thinking his grandpa will be our ring bearer. So all for anyone doing any "job" in a ceremony.

I totally wanted to do this but FH shot it down. I say go for it! Ring beaters and flower girls should not be limited to children.

Please do not let anyone discourage you for doing this based upon what smoother adult may think. It is you and your other half's wedding so do what makes you happy. I see nothing wrong with it.

I love ring security! I think that it is cute to include him!

If you just want him to have a part, he could do a reading or something...

It is most important to surround ourselves with the people we love on the day that is supposed to be filled with love! Do what you need to do! Its your day! Have fun with it!

I’d love to see that happen! Break out of tradition, I say! Anyone remember the guy who was the “flower man” at his cousin’s wedding last year?

This is soooo funny! That video is priceless.

I say if your uncle is comfortable with it, it could be really fun & different! It seems like if you’re comfortable, so are guests. Maybe if he backs out last minute, he can just hold the rings in a box & present to officiant in a more formal manner. The fact he wants to be a part of your wedding is cute in itself!

    Lol Ring security!! Love it.

I picture him wearing a suit. Having a security ear piece on. Brief case with rings inside. Attached to hand cuffs, that are cuffed to your uncle. Also I see for machine potential. Lol Good luck and congratulations on your special day!

I thought it was a good idea and my FH is all for it! Even if it isn't ring security and he just plays the role of bringer the rings down in the box I think he would really like to be a part of it!

Thanks for all the advice!Smiley heart
