So I'm looking into renting a heater for our ceremony next month. We are getting married on a covered, enclosed porch, but there is no heat source and I'm getting worried about the temperatures. The rental place does not have those tall, individual heaters with the propane tank, but only has a large 180,000 BTU heater that they use for the tents they set up at events.

We could possibly put the heater outside and run ductwork in the porch if there's an open spot, but I'm worried about the noise either way. The rental guy said they make some noise, but it's not overwhelming. It's not a huge deal for cocktail hour, but with our ceremony, I don't want everything to be drowned out. Any experience with these tent heaters and thoughts about the noise?

In other words, who cares if it's too cold for guests, you'll have heaters (that will very likely be ineffective except for right next to them, because you're OUTSIDE!!)!

If I was a guest for this wedding, and I knew your ceremony and cocktail hour were going to be outside and the reception inside, guess what I'd do? I'd skip your ceremony and cocktail hour. If you, as a host, are a-okay being that inconsiderate of me, then I have zero issue with being equally inconsiderate of you.

Turn on the heater before the ceremony and get the porch nice & toasty. Turn it off for the ceremony so everyone can hear. Then turn it back on. With all of the people on the enclosed porch, they should be warm enough.

I remember Thanksgiving dinners on my grandparents' enclosed porch in upstate PA. With all the body heat, we were plenty warm enough.

One of my friend's cousins got married in October 2010 and it was 90 degrees on her wedding day! They had rented heaters and everything for the tent and obviously did not need them, They purchased a Big Buddy heater https://bestoutdooritems.com/best-tent-heaters/ They used it on an overnight outing with the children in the pop-up tent trailer. It warms up the whole tent in 10 minutes or so and runs exactly 4 hours on a standard propane canister. I would think this would be a good solution
