Advice on Doing my own make up

Lea, on February 24, 2021 at 2:13 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 14
HI everyone! I am planning on doing my own make up for my wedding. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what brand of make up is good? I am looking for some that lasts long, doesn't smudge and also looks somewhat natural. Any feedback is appreciated!

Honestly, this answer will vary from person to person.

Some brands will work great on me, but not for you. It depends on your skin, the makeup look you want, temperature, length of wear, etc..

I am doing my own makeup and I experimented with number of different products and brands until I found the ones I want to use.

Start off with researching and looking at reviews on the products. Watch some youtube videos on wedding makeup! I think: Foundation will be the most important factor if you are wearing it. Followed by mascara and lip products!

Do you feel comfortable/confident doing your own? Not many women do.

In order to get makeup to stay put, you start with primer and finish with setting spray. It will not budge for 24 hrs regardless of tge brand. But you need to ask at Sephora or Ulta what brands/products work best for HD photography. Over the counter makeup is not designed for professional photos.

Exactly this. And, I would start practicing with different brands and looks ASAP. You may also want to pencil it out - by the time you do all of your experimenting, you may have spent more in products than it would have cost to hire an artist - just a thought Smiley smile

Agreed. Hiring someone, even with a trial, is still less expensive and less stress than DIY in most cases. Very few people factor time (at minimum wage), supplies, sanity into the final product.

Definitely tell any makeup artist that you talk with that you don't want a heavy "full-glam" look. Also, look at their portfolios - ESPECIALLY the before/after photos. Is their work very natural looking where they just enhance the beautiful features of each bride? Or do they have a tendency to do a full-glam Kardashianesque makeup look that makes it hard to recognize the makeup-less bride?

The artist I chose does a very natural makeup look - and it isn't necessarily the amount of makeup used, but more importantly the techniques used to apply it. It takes a lot of makeup to make it look like you're not wearing any ;-) especially on camera.

    Best of luck!!!

Well I have a girl that is doing my hair. She has good rating and I read that she will make anything you ask her happen. So I feel obligated to use her for my make up as well. But she seems experienced and knows what she is doing. So I think we will be ok. Thanks so much!

Browse makeup portfolios on vendor websites and interview them to see who you best connect with. Bring inspiration photos to your trial and make sure you are both on the same page and do not leave until you are happy. Most bride makeup looks are very minimal to begin with so none of them should have a problem doing what you want.

Not all hairdressers are skilled at makeup and many work with teams. Just make sure to get trials of everything.
