Advice on dress

Lynne, on February 7, 2022 at 11:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
I said yes to me dress last week, but because of the price I'm beginning to have dress regret. I'm going through David's Bridal and using their layaway plan.

My FH was out of work for a couple of weeks and I'm a stay at-home mom. Our daughter is autistic and can't stay home alone for long.

Should I go try on other dresses? I'm trying not to stress out. I really don't know what to do.

If that is the dress you love, stop looking. Is price the only concern you have with it?

Yes, because I have no idea how much alterations are going to be.

Are you doing the alteration through David's? Do they have a "set price" you can base off of?

If you are doing a layaway plan - will you get all your money back if you choose a different dress?

You so loved this dress - anything you might be able to cut more to make this dress work?

I have an appointment on the first to try accessories with my dress and I'll be making a payment. I'm going to ask if they can give me an idea on cost of alterations. I think it will just need to be hemmed.

It is much cheaper to go to a private seamstress. David’s is known for price gouging during alterations.

I would go through a probate seamstress. they tend to be a bit cheaper.

Look elsewhere for an independent seamstress. Do a search on GoogleMaps or check with Facebook wedding groups for your area for suggestions. David’s will charge a small fortune for something as simple as sewing on a button.

I was going to say this. They rip you off, take it somewhere else.

Agree with what others said! No matter what dress you end up with, do not do your alterations through David’s Bridal. Way overpriced. Find a local seamstress with good reviews. Ask your friends and family, they may already have one they love.

Echoing bringing it to a private seamstress and there is zero reason to buy accessories from them either. You can get shoes, jewelry, veils and headpieces for much cheaper on Amazon or Etsy than at DB.

I agree with this. I found a veil on Amazon for like $30 that was identical to a $200 veil in the bridal salon. Shoes from DSW cost me $35.

I just want to see if I actually want a veil or not. If I do, I want an idea on style and length. Same with a sash.

This is a really good reason to have that appointment. Also, if you are double-guessing it this much about the dress then it is a good idea to see it again to make sure you are making the right decision.

Good to know about David's Bridal - I had assumed being affiliated with the store they would have a reputation to uphold - but doesn't sound so Smiley surprise

I am going with my bridal shop because I am making extensive alterations and they have a good reputation - but yes pricy in deed.

Sounds like you have a good plan to find local Lynne!
