Affordable MD Venue Ideas??

Allyson, on March 22, 2017 at 1:13 PM Posted in Maryland Planning 2 43

I am trying to find a venue for a 2018 wedding and am having trouble finding something affordable that fits my general "criteria". I'm wondering if I am just going to have to expand my horizons when it comes to ambiance and settle with a hall of sorts. I love to plan events so I know I could jazz it up with decor, but preferably I'd like a venue that naturally is pretty.

Here is what I am looking for in general:

Capacity for 150 guests

Ability to bring my own caterer/food truck

Cost under $3000 (here's hoping Smiley winking )

In the end I really just want an awesome party where I don't have to cut my guest list and enjoy a night with the people we love without breaking the bank too much...but would love to find a space that has some character and ambiance if possible Smiley smile Thanks in advance for the help!

$3000 for everything? Or just the venue space?

Are there any converted barns nearby? Most are brand new venues so they cost less and typically hold a bit more than you're expecting (numbers-wise). I found my venue unexpectedly and though the outside is a bit hideous, the inside is easy enough to make gorgeous

Anything in Montgomery, Howard, PG, Baltimore, Carroll, Anne Arundel, and Frederick county is going to be pricier (as they're closer to DC & Baltimore). Which leaves you with Western, Southern, and Eastern MD

ETA: Also depends on what sort of scenery you want. Are you wanting mountains? A beach? Flat land?

Where about in MD are you looking? I live down in St. Mary's County but am getting married in Laurel- did lots of searching in SoMD, and near DC and Baltimore. PG County Parks & Rec manages some very inexpensive historic properties, SoMD has some wineries & nice barn venues, and I remember seeing a botanical garden in the Baltimore area that looked really cool- was too pricey for us, but might be in your range. Running Hare Vineyard in Calvert Co. is beautiful and might accommodate 150. There's a rustic venue in Columbia called Oliver's Carriage House- it's about $3k for the venue all day, the rehearsal (you can even have the dinner there), and tables & chairs- you can do whatever you want catering-wise, they just don't allow hard liquor to be served.

The ONLY place I know of around me anyway (Carroll county) that will allow you to bring in your own caterer is my venue, which I chose Walker's Overlook in Frederick county, and they coat $8,000, $7,500 if you pay in full within 30 days. That's for a Saturday wedding though and you get the entire property for the day.

Im in the PG area. If you weren't looking into food trucks I would suggest Oxon Hill Manor, or Newton Mansion, or even the Villa which would include everything including food.

Under $3k for 150ppl. Maybe without catering its possible I suppose but you may have to open your wallet up a bit more. Some venues do soecials for their off seasons tho. Look for those

I am looking for a small affordable venue for my wedding reception. We are looking in the Charlotte County Florida area for the maximum of 25 people. I have my photographer and notary for the wedding. I just want something pretty, with good food. Can anyone help me? Our date is October 7, 2017.

    Thank you.

There is a venue in NoVA where you can rent the location for just your reception (if I remember correctly) for $3000. They say it fits up to 150 people, I didn't feel that it did so I didn't rent it but it was very nice and the owners are very accommodating. Google Stone Manor B&B.

Where in MD are you? Check out state parks! We just booked Jefferson Patterson Park (in St. Leonard - southern maryland). It was 2500 for Friday 4pm-10pm & Saturday 7am - 10pm. It's bare bones allowing you to make it your own and it came with all the chairs and such! If you're not nearby maybe Google state park weddings in your area!

@maria - make your own post.. don't try to hijack someone else's.

I would love western MD or western VA... everything is expensive IMO in MD.. why I chose to do a destination wedding for 6k.

Thank you guys so much for your responses! Definitely helping me out with some new items to research!

    - I live/work in the MoCo and HoCo area - I've looked a little here but I know these are some of the richest counties so things will be pricier.

    - I've been looking all over - open to anywhere in MD / VA / WV

    - I like the idea of outside/woodsy - but since I know I am trying to keep a tight budget I'm open to anything indoor/outdoor.

    - Definitely want to stick with my own caterer - my fiance owns a food truck so we are going to use that.

It really depends on where you are looking. There's the Laurel Grove Inn in the Crofton area, I'm getting married at the Billingley House but their max is 120. There are parks everywhere throughout MD. Without knowing you location it's hard to tell you where to look.

I'm getting married in Baltimore and it's certainly not cheap so I'm not sure I can help. But just wanted to say hi to my fellow MD brides, I grew up in Carroll county!!
