Affordable New England minimoon

There are so many awesome places to go in New England in the fall!! I would do the White Mountains in New Hampshire if you enjoy hiking but if you want a coastal i would do Ogunquit, maine. You'll fall in love with Ogunquit and its so close to Boston.

You will definitely enjoy Newport, RI. Quiet, beautiful, great restaurants, by the ocean, historic, lovely shoppes and not too far from TF Green Airport.

Or Martha's Vineyard, MA. - That's where the President vacations. Been to both Newport and Martha's Vineyard - both beautiful places!

I grew up in Mass. I took FH back to meet family. He fell in love! It is a beautiful place to visit!

Newport RI, Cape Code, Any place in NH really. Marblehead is a good place to visit. Here's a list... I've been to 22/24 of these places... they are all gorgeous!

This may not fit the bill because it is farther from an airport, but I LOVE Bar Harbor, ME. You might be able to fly into Bangor which is like an hour from Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor / Acadia National Park is one of the most beautiful places I have been.

2nd vote for Newport, RI, beautiful coastal town big enough to have things to do for 4 days: Newport mansions, restaurants and shops. But if you are looking for foliage, late-Sept would be too early for RI/MA area, you'll need to head up north to NH and ME.

Maine: Wells, Ogunquit, Freeport, farther up is cool too.. one of my BM's parents own cabins up there and DH and I went for a week for our HM.

NH: White Mountains, Mount Washington Hotel, Bretton Woods (skiing, hiking), kayaking, riding, Mount Washington.

Mass: Boston, Freedom Trail, all the museums, restaurants, Old Sturbridge Village.

RI: Newport is awesome, all the mansions, you can bike around, beaches, etc.

New England generally: the leaves should be starting to change and it'll be gorgeous. Warm days but crisp, cooler nights, bring sweaters. I'd suggest renting a car and doing B&Bs rather than big hotels, especially since it might make sense to spend a couple days in one place and then go spend some time somewhere else.

I think vermont in September would be super romantic, but you mentioned you wanted coastal new england. I suggest southern coastal Maine ... York, Wells, ogunquit, Kennebunk. There are some beautiful and romantic hotels on the rocky seacoast. Great fresh seafood dinners. Can you tell I'm a bit partial to new england and had to put my two cents in? Haha grew up in new england all my life, been to every new england state about a dozen times each.
