Afraid my dress is too low cut!

Sarah, on February 6, 2018 at 9:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 64
So, I’ve gotten my dress back and just got quoted for my alterations. However, one thing I noticed in pictures is that my dress is a lot more low cut looking than I originally thought!!! I’m not sure if that’s because the size I tried on was so big on me that I didn’t notice it or what, but now I’m super worried my fiancé is not going to be happy with it :-( he’s rather conservative when it comes to this. I was looking at pictures of wedding dresses recently and he commented that one was too low cut. It seemed similar to mine... cue stomach drop.

what do yall think? Any advice on how to eliminate the low-cut look so it’s not as noticeable? Maybe if I didn’t have push-up cups in the dress to fill the gap? Maybe it’ll fit better once the “straps” (shoulders) are brought up some?

I personally love everything else about this dress (especially the gorgeous back) but now I’m getting so nervous and self-conscious about the cleavage area. Gah!!

I expected something much more low-cut based on the title.

It's not low-cut at all, really.

And what your FH thinks should really not play a role in what you choose to put on your body.

Once the straps are lifted you should have less cleavage. It looks beautiful on you!

I think it’s beautiful. It might not be as low cut once you get it fitted

I mean, I do want to respect that he would feel more comfortable if I don’t have my cleavage showing, given that it’s his wedding day, too, you know? Here’s a closer pic, perhaps I really am overthinking it! 🙈🙈 it’s just that visible “gap” from my boobs that worries me I guess?

I don’t think it is too much cleavage. I don’t know how conservative your fiancé is though. I’m sure if you speak with alterations that they can add something in the middle some extra lace. But I think it is gorgeous!

Honestly, I'm fairly conservative and I don't think it's too low cut. Looks beautiful on you! I don't think you'll need to worry about him not liking it.

First, you look so lovely and happy! It’a A gorgeous dress and you wear it well.

I think the only opinion that matters here is yours. If your FH gets upset on your wedding day that you have a little bit of cleavage, then you’ve got bigger problems to worry about. I’m sure he’ll be looking at you as a whole and thinking about how much he loves you, rather than judging how much skin is showing. You also have a super low cut, sheer back. Not that it matters because you are your own person, a grown woman in 2018, but would he be upset with that? Or does he just have a problem with breasts?

Also, does your FH think you’re going to attract all the guys at the wedding because of minimal cleavage showing? 😆

Not at all what I expected. I was thinking something super low like Pinena or Berta. You look great!

The dress is beautiful! I had the same issue with the breast area as well, and as soon as we raised the straps it fixed the issue! So I think it will turn out perfectly fine!

Hahaha your comments cracked me up! 😂 you know, funny enough, I think it is just a breast issue for him 😜 he’s a nerdy good guy, so I think these ladies freak him out 😂😂 it’s sweet that he gets territorial but I know he’d never bring it up even if he felt it was too low... at least not for a long long time. I just want to look perfect for him! 🙈

There's nothing wrong with wanting your FH to love your dress. I would never listen to anyone telling me "not to care what he thinks because it's your body". That kind of mentality contradicts the purpose of marriage completely. But anyway, the dress is beautiful and you look beautiful in it! You could always see if your seamstress could add extra material if you continue to feel unsettled about it. She could probably add some lace work over the area. Or like others mentioned, once alterations are completed it might not be an issue to you at all. Either way you will look beautiful!

Looking at the photos, you could try to find a similar piece of lace to act as a "modestly shield". Seen into the inside of your dress, it would still look elegant, but provide you with the coverage your FH is looking for.
