African American Bridal Hairstyles (natural Hair)

Courtney, on December 27, 2019 at 5:41 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 22
So I’ve been natural for a few years , and I’m having a hard time deciding on a natural hair style (without a sew in). I don’t really care too much for an updo too much & I doubt my fiancé will either. He LOVES my natural hair out plus I’ve always dreamed up wearing my natural hair for my wedding. I Just can’t decide on a style. I know I want something with curls like maybe perm rods or flexi rod style. I also want to wear a veil (not one that just hangs in the back but is at least half way on my head with curls hanging down). I’ve posted some inspiration pictures but still not sure if my hair will hold up better with my natural hair or straightening first then curls. It’s hard to picture my hair on my wedding day (I have 4b/4C type hair) plus our wedding day is in July in Florida. Any one have any ideas Or can post pictures of how they wore their hair on their wedding day? Did the curls hold up?

First picture is a style with curls going to the side. Second two is just curls down & maybe a flower or headpiece on side. Last is like two twists going to the back. All of these I would still like a veil. Thanks! African American Bridal Hairstyles (natural Hair) 1African American Bridal Hairstyles (natural Hair) 2

I think all of those pics would work or even something like this if you want a veil.

Yes I’ve seen this picture! & it gives me a better vision of what I want with a veil & how far I want it to sit up. I’m wondering if it would still look Good if I have all of it going to the side or just with the curls down & a hair piece on one side..

I'm natural as well. If you want more length with your curls I'd suggest blowing it out first. Those last two pics are my fav. I think that would look really good on you.

Thank you! So instead of straightening just wash , blow dry and then do rollers? I’m starting lean more towards the last two as well! It’s mainly between those & the one right before it since it’s similar to how I wear my hair every day anyway but with tighter curls.

I feel like the main factor is knowing how your hair holds up in summertime Florida weather. What has your hair experience been in similar conditions?

I’d select the first pic with a twist-out type of look. I think it will look nice under a veil because most of the hair volume is at the bottom. Also if the weather becomes problematic, that style seems easier to quickly pin up and create a nice “bun” look, and the top will still be laid down. Similar to this idea....African American Bridal Hairstyles (natural Hair) 8

When you have the veil try it on with your hair and if needed bring to your hair dresser and have give tips on the best style for the veil.

I haven’t picked my veil yet , but have tried on some in the store with my natural hair. That’s a good idea on taking it with me. Thanks!

I wear my hair out like in the picture I shown pretty much every day unless I have my braided. I only get it straightened when I need a trim which is like twice a year , but my fiancée prefers my hair how I normally wear it or braids. It does fine that way in the summer even when I sweat , but as far as it being straightened , sometimes that’ll last about a week. But I’m constantly worried about how my hair looks when I have it like that. I’ve thought about a bun going back , but I guess I’d have to see how I look with it. Lol but I have seen some cute photos with it. I’ll consider it more thanks!

I see! In that case, it sounds like your last 2 pics are what you prefer.

I’m natural and will be wearing mine natural for my wedding as well I am going with a look similar to your 4th picture. I think it will last a little longer. It really depends on how long you want it to last and your exact veil type. I’m thinking a cathedral vail or bird cage (I know super different lol). But I think all of them would look great on you! Are you doing it yourself or going to a stylist?

I wouldn’t do a silk press in Florida at that the time of year. Blowing it out and styling with rods would work best. I’m natural too and I am thinking a braided Mohawk with flexi rod curls.

Yes I’d really love to have a long veil! I’m not sure if I’m going to a stylist yet. I have a stylist I go to sometimes but when I asked her to do flexirods one time, she could not get it right and I don’t think she knew what she was doing ... so I wouldn’t want to go to her with that even If she is my regular stylist so then I’d have to find someone else and see how I like them or ask my mom or a friend to do it.

Yes I was thinking a silk press wouldn’t a be a good idea but thanks for the tip on blow drying first and flexirods! I’ve never tried flexirods but I’ve seen pictures of results and it seems beautiful! And a braided Mohawk with curls sounds really pretty!

Yes the more I look at it, I think I am leaning more towards those. I just wanted to be open to styles and ideas I haven’t seen yet. I guess I will just have to test my hair out & see how it goes!

I think brides should look like themselves but jazzed up a notch for wedding. I like the bling in next to last pick. But you could do a headband with a detachable veil. Place headband about the middle of your head and you’d look spectacular.

I agree with about the part about brides looking themselves just jazzed up! And second to last pic from the top or bottom? (So I can know which one) I posted the bottom pictures first but I guest the app posts them the opposite way. I do like the idea of a headband & detachable veil. I’ve seen pictures and they look nice! Just didn’t know how to do them until just now. Thanks 😊
