African American Brides - Headpiece Inspiration

MrsMitch , on April 6, 2017 at 10:31 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 58

Looking for headpiece inspiration! Please post pics or share where you purchased.

I shouldn't have to preface with this but this post isn't meant to offend so ANYONE please feel free to share your headpieces. However, I'm especially interested in seeing pictures of African American brides with short haircuts or natural hairstyles similar to my own in their headpieces. Attaching a pic of one of the styles I like so far. I want something a tiny bit more elaborate though.

I'll be wearing my hair like this, and this is the headpiece that I've ordered to go at the back of my head (will wear it over the veil comb). It will be very natural, as I still want to feel like myself on the wedding day.

ETA: geez louise, I don't know how to make them so they are not at an angle.

ETA: sorry, don't know how they got so turned around. Will try to edit them.

Thank you! Very simple. Curls and grays is the order of the day for me!

ETA: do you want something that's sort of flexible and fluid (as the one you've pictured), or would you also be interested in crowns and such?

I plan to have my hair like this. I will do crochet braids to protect my natural hair. The hair dresser I found does blow outs on crochet hair so I can still have a natural hair looking style without having my hair out. I am thinking of putting a jeweled comb in the back. I haven't seen one I like as yet but I have lots of time

    FitzwilliamDarcy - That is beautiful.

FutureMrs - I love this pic you posted too.

I just wanted a hair band and need a ribbon or attachment with it because I have a big head! Here's mine as I tried it on after a hair trial. When I went to David's Bridal a band like this would run $100. I'm not about that life, so ended up ordering mine on Amazon.com for $19.99.

Why would this post offend anyone? It's harder to imagine when the bride doesn't look like you.

If some white girl gets offended by it, it's because she has no idea what it is like.

ETA: sorry I don't have advice Smiley sad I just hate it with BOC's apologize for things like this. I do love everyone's hair pieces!

@FitzwilliamDarcy I want something similar to the picture just a little bit more fancy. Here's another pic that looks awesome on this bride but it's TOO elaborate for my taste. So something between this and the pic on the original post. I'm not sure if I've seen any crowns. But if it's a crown like a tiara or princess/queen like then not for me.

I know some people get teary reading/perusing the BAMs, but I got teary-eyed when I see pictures of brides of color.

    SweetMosey, you look beautiful!

FutureMrs, I love that you're asking for pictures of natural hair (I know so many have their stories, but it took me so long to be comfortable wearing my natural hair). Thanks for this!

(I'm officially done now. I will only return to compliment brides and their hair choices).

ETA: was thinking of crowns like this (more of a headpiece than crown, but she markets them as crowns).

@Ohheyitscait I agree I shouldn't have to preface with this but it's necessary (unfortunately). It's very frustrating filtering through hundreds of images on bridal sites, Pinterest, etc. but not being able to envision what those items look like on my hair.

@FitzwilliamDarcy I did the big chop close to a year ago and have been wearing my natural hair mostly but alot of protective styles during winter. It's extremely important for me to wear my own natural hair on my wedding day.

@FutureMrs I love the crowns but with the style I am looking at I don't want to attract any more attention to my forehead lol

www.ilieanageorge.com - this website has amazing crowns and headpieces, I follow her on IG and she has a lot of black models so you can get an idea of how they look on your skin tone. She is based in Toronto, Canada but ships worldwide

@FitzwilliamDarcy and @FutureMrs it is also important for me to have me hair look like it would on a normal day just jazzed up. It is hard to find styles that do not require a full weave. I refuse to do anything to my hair that will have long term effects. It took way too long to grow, I am not damaging it for one day

FutureMrs & FitzwilliamDarcy -Thank you Smiley smile .

I wish I could just go for the natural. My hair is so thick and coarse - in the summer I'd be a big puff. I'm still thinking about it though.

Future Mrs. Love, that was one of the pieces I originally looked at (I think it is beautiful). I don't know how much you want to spend on a piece (I believe in splurges, but could not justify adding this to my budget), but here it is: https://kellyspence.com/collections/combs/products/midsummer-crescent-comb?variant=6825471491

Love this! I am on Pinterest all the time like "African American natural brides." I don't get why we can't ever be in the default pictures. After much deliberation I have decided I'll be wearing my natural hair and adding clip ins but have been having the hardest time finding a stylist. Been considering adding a hair piece but my earrings are so pretty I don't want to do too much. :/
