After the wedding- buying things off your registries?

Shellie, on April 24, 2012 at 1:43 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

I was just thinking about this while packing up all our crap to move yesterday-

Are you planning to buy things off your registries that you don't get as gifts?

Some things I don't think I would buy, like the tent or new sheets. But some thing I really think we need. Like a knife set that cuts, or new bathroom towels to replace the ones we got in a set (2 of each- towels, hand towels, and wash clothes) for $8 from wal-mart.

Plus- what if we get one set of plates when we registered for 2, I think we will need to buy another set so we have enough plates if we ever have guests.

Or someone buys you 4 towels when you registered for 6? I don't know about you guys but the towels I registered for now don't match the ones we have, so it's not like they would just blend in together if they where mismatched.

Did you or are you planning on buying things off your own registries if you don't get them for the wedding? What did/are you going to get?

We bought, and are still buying, gifts off our registry. We only received five sets of china dishes so we bought three more so we can entertain. We really needed new drinking glasses but no one bought them for us so we plan on buying them. We registered at two stores, one offers 10% discount for items off our registry for one year and the other offers us the same discount for 6 months.

Most of the things on our registry were things we wanted but wouldn't really want to lay the money out for ourselves, so I doubt we will be buying much, BUT, we did get some gift cards for those stores, so we will probably do that after Smiley smile

We picked some cute decorative stuff that we won't buy ourselves, but I think we will buy the china, knife set and probably new towels because its stuff that really needs to be acquired.

Black Friday falls right into our window for the registry discounts, so yes, we are definitely planning on hitting that up! Smiley smile

We also intentionally registered for things we seriously don't expect guests to give us, like the flat screen at Target, but that the discount will greatly help out in. So should we get it as a gift, epic family/friends indeed!! But at least now we can buy some dream toys (again with the flat screen lol) for many pennies less.

I hadn't even thought about things like TV's. 10% isn't much when it comes to a blender, but 10% is a lot on a $1,000 tv....

Almost all our items are things we need or need to upgrade. with 3 kids in the house already I have to have at least a set of 12 dishes for company. Heck when I am in the mood for cooking need 12 plates for weekend use since I don't run my dishwasher half full. I think there are several items we would buy off the registries after the wedding if they are not bought. I would use the gift cards to buy registry items.

We actually bought our own pots & pans the second we registered - we were moving and needed a new set, and by registering for them, we got this crazy cocktail of discounts and incentives and such.

The other thing we purchased (just now) was our remaining luggage piece for the HM. We didn't think anybody would give us any of it, but we got all but one piece several months ago as early shower/wedding gifts.

After the wedding - we kept our registries super small (200 approx invited and 60 items), so they're basically all bought up now. We might have a few things left over - like 4 water goblets out of 12 or something, so we'll buy that stuff ASAP to make sure we get matching sets.

Crate & Barrel gives you 10% off storewide after your wedding, whether an item was on the registry or not. We got some gift cards so we might pool them for something big, like furniture.
