Ok ladies...I've got a question. In regards to the check cashing, most were made out to DH's First Name AND my name and last name. But I go by a nickname that most people use thats not my legal name. I have also yet to change my last name and am waiting for the certified copy of the marriage...

I have also yet to change my last name and am waiting for the certified copy of the marriage license. We also have procrastinated and do not yet have a joint bank account. I've never had any problems depositing money made out to Nickname MaidenName in the past but am wondering how it works with this situation.

Our checks had every combination of our names. The bank didn't care, they were all deposited easily and quickly.

We didn't have any issues depositing our. Most of the checks were made out to dh, but some were made out to both of us with his last name. We actually ended up depositing them all into his account (his name only on the account) with an iPhone app. He signed all of them, and I didn't sign any. The mobile deposit was super easy, and we didn't have to deal with any employees being sticklers about the check being written to both of us.

We had one check that was just made to "Bride and Groom." No joke. I signed my name and the bank had no problem with it.

Talk to DH's bank if that's where you want to to deposit the money. Double endorsement sounds like a great plan here, but the AND makes a difference. It usually mean that BOTH parties have to be on the account or present for the teller to watch you sign the check over the the account owner. If the check says OR, he can deposit with no issue into his bank, without your endorsement. I would say to go to the bank with DH when he tries to cash it and the teller will help you endorse it properly.

As long as you are depositing the checks and not trying to cash them they won't care. I signed mine Elizabeth MaidenLN MarriedLN even when the check was to Tom and Elizabeth MarriedLN just in case but it wasn't a problem.

I wouldn't worry about problems with depositing them too much (although when I went to my sister's wedding I wrote a check just to her to avoid that problem).

In general, I just sign them with whatever name is on the check (maiden or last) and then you can endorse it to your H if you need to.

He endorsed the checks and I took my new DL, SS card and the marriage license to the bank to do a name change and they still made me get a copy of his Driver License. SInce we did not and still do not have a joint account ( keep forgetting) it was huge pain in the ass. Unless the check says " Mr OR Mrs. both names have to be signed. IF it says AND it was a pain. I will just give people cash from now on.

If you can electronically deposit the check there should be no problem. I get checks for my nickname rather legal name all the time and as long as it has my last name my bank doesn't care. Dunno about going in person.

The bank just had DH sign his name on all the checks and we put them into his account.

Don't worry about it. DH and I did have a joint account, his name my maiden name. I took them in and they just told me to sign my name on them, no big deal. You can always deposit them into this account if they have his name. The info I basically got from the bank was that it's not a big deal what name is on the check if you are only depositing. It might be another thing if you are taking it trying to cash it.
