Airbnb for a small wedding?

Monica, on January 20, 2019 at 4:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hey all! I'm just starting the hunt for wedding venues and saw a few people talk about their Airbnb weddings. I've also seen a lot of concerns about this kind of wedding, but most of those are from bigger weddings. My wedding is going to be very small... Like between 20-40 people. So I'm wondering if anyone has experience with smaller weddings at an Airbnb? I'm sure that makes the experience much different, but I'd really like to make kind of a weekend getaway out of it for our family and friends.

And, if an Airbnb is too risky for a wedding, what kind of venue should I look into getting? I'd really like to have a nice place to relax and an outdoor wedding. Thanks in advance!

A lot of Airbnb’s don’t allow events because of liability reasons. Where I live there are event planning companies who work with homeowners and different properties specifically for events like weddings or fundraisers.

Like Kelly said, AirBnB's tend to have more restrictions and with that more risk. Based on what others have said on these forums they can work great you just need to keep a couple things in mind:

    - make sure the AirBnB allows events and be very open and honest about the fact that you're hosting a wedding

    - check local sounds laws to make sure you're not violating any if, especially if you're hosting things outside

If you can find one that allows events (in a county & city that allows them) I think it would depend on the size of the rental. You'd need multiple bathrooms for 20-40 people, so it would need 3 bathrooms at least. You'd also need enough room indoors for a proper backup plan if the weather is bad.

Hi Monica! Smiley heart This sounds like a great idea for your intimate wedding!

You received some great feedback here in this thread and I agree, perhaps if there is a smaller Airbnb that allows events in your area this would work!

Otherwise, you could look into smaller venues or even restaurants with private-dining options that you could rent out for the evening? A little unconventional and just an idea, but I've seen quite a few intimate wedding's here in our Community that took place in really hip or historic restaurants. And going this route, there was no need for outside catering or decor really, too! Smiley heart

There are Airbnb locations specifically for weddings. Location is sometimes a factor. Good luck!

We're also looking into an Airbnb and found one we love. We initially had a guest list of about 35 but we decided we would cut it down if we decide to go with this Villa. Some will allow events up to a certain amount with an additional fee but your best bet is to reach out and be super open with them. That's what I've been doing and so far it's working out. The host is flexible with our needs and is waiving the event fee if we keep the list down to who is staying at the Villa.
