There has been plenty of posts in the past (and there will be tons in the future) regarding airbrush vs. traditional makeup. I’m making this discussion to distinguish the two for you and hopefully save some women time from having to research the two. (There aren’t a lot of informative websites out there. I’ve done the legwork)

If you’ve had your makeup trial OR your one of the already married gals, feel free to post pictures and let us know what you decided to go with and why. It’ll be fun to see plus it will provide some great makeup inspiration.

I love airbrush! I feel like it doesn't have that heavy caked-on effect! I have already done my hair and airbrush make up trial for my wedding in July. I have done both traditional and airbrush in the past for events and I would always choose airbrush first if it was an option!

I had never thought about this before. I've never gotten airbrush done before but open to try it. I've only ever worn make up when I had to for like sets and shoots and stuff and it was all traditional. I'm what I like to call MUI (make up impaired Smiley xd ) because I never applied it myself nor do I even begin to understand how to. To this day, I still get nervous but the times I got it done, they never felt clumped or heavy.

*I apologize for the quality. Not the HiRes originals.*

Thank you very much for sharing. It is a good idea to have a make trail to find which one is better for ourselves. This is particularly great for those who are not wear makeup in daily life.

Thanks for sharing! I have my makeup trial tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to it.

My MUA does traditional. I had asked her before I booked and she had told me her package includes 16 hours flawless non-airbrush application and strip lashes. Her reasoning was she doesn't believe in "one makeup fits all skin" philosophy and want to customize to the bride's skin type by using high-end foundations and brushes/beauty blenders to apply.

I found her on social media and *loved* her work (she seemed to be really good at bringing out individual features rather than one set style) so I'm really excited for the trial tomorrow.

Do most MUA's offer make-up trial? Mine hasn't offered. So I am wondering what happens if we don't like the look she does on the day of?

I actually work as a professional bridal hair and makeup artist and personally for me I prefer using liquid or cream foundations and I guess more "traditional" makeup on my brides as opposed to airbrush. I just haven't had the best of luck with air brush makeup and find that they don't last as long especially if the bride has an oilier skin type. My favorite foundations for long wearing bridal makeup are Make Up For Ever HD (classic), Fenty Pro Filtr (Great for oily skin), and most recently Dior Backstage Face and Body (super lightweight and build able). Of course skin prep plays a major part in the longevity of your base and how it goes on.

Ohhhhhh you HAVE to have a trial! Because that's exactly the issue- if you don't like it, you're SOL. I would definitely reach out and insist you do a trial! Now, you pay for the trial, it isn't free, but it's often a lower cost than the day of.

Not accurate, I wear smash box studio skin and it never smudged, and wore all day. I live in Cali and its scorching hot. I used to wear airbrush makeup, but I ran out and had to purchase a traditional foundation and fell in love again. I noticed 2 differences: airbrush may look seamless, but has horrible coverage. It was so light and barely covered anything. The smash box covered all of my existence! And was 20 dollars cheaper which is a total steal ! I didn't have to touch up, and it didn't make me look flakey like the airbrush does. I always cuddle with my husband and my kids always smear kisses on my face, not to mention my dogs too. The foundation stayed on all day. I went back to traditional foundation and I have to recommend the smash box studio skin, tarte foundcealer and the Dior backstage. The Dior, you pay almost the same amount of coin, but you definelty get a better deal. It has a full 1 fl oz, total overage, and I like to apply it with a sponge and it looks amazing. Sometimes ill even go the extra mile and use a foundation brush and the buff in with a blender. It may take longer, yes it does, but it is soooo fun too. I really enjoy the finish of the traditional than airbrush.

Just has a makeup trial today - she uses all natural products.I have super sensitive skin and allergies so the makeup was light. However some airbrushing was used... and that may not do well with sensitive skin. I removed makeup thoroughly- that is important.
However I have little hives/ red blotches on my face around my forehead and eyes now! And it’s been burning
I think I needed hypoallergenic makeup vs natural....Never been much of a makeup person and need to figure out what to do since this failed . Would be happy with eyeliner and lipstick ..

My consult told me most of her girls prefer traditional after trying both. She said airbrush didn’t work well in humid temps like beach. She said it was my choice but most chose traditional. I haven’t tried either so no preference from me so far. I have had eyelash extensions before. I’m thinking you could lightly brush over them with mascara. I’ve seen people do it on tutorials. I’m afraid oily make up remover would remove the lashes

I initially went with airbrush in my trial because I had heard it gives you a lot of coverage. Well that definitely didnt happen with me because it ended up looking like I wasnt wearing any makeup and the few blemishes I had werent even covered. I ended up going back for a second trial to get traditional makeup and it was so much better. It does look a little more cakey but I guess airbrush is a good choice if you have near-perfect skin. I also felt like the airbrush makeup would wipe off more quickly in sweat or weather than traditional
