Airbrush Makeup Vs Regular Makeup

Future Mrs. Holz, on October 31, 2016 at 2:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31

Hey everyone! Happy Halloween!

I was just on the phone with the hair and makeup consultant at the salon I'm going to for everything and they asked me if I wanted airbrushed or regular makeup. I've never had airbrushed makeup before, so I would love to know what others have done/pros and cons of airbrush. Or did you do regular makeup and were just as satisfied. Let me know! I just wanna hear some real experiences! Smiley smile

I'm getting it just to have the peace of mind. I typically have good skin but I do breakout sometimes when I'm stressed so I just want that assurance that even if I do break out you won't be able to see them. I've noticed with airbrush makeup zits get covered a lot better.

I had airbrush makeup and I loved it. A friend had told me she found hers heavy- I checked with my MUA and she told me that when done properly it should be incredibly light. She said her most common complaint is from ladies who wear a lot on an average day feel naked. I didn't feel like I was wearing anything on my face, it stayed all day and I loved it. All my bridesmaids loved it too. I can't recommend it enough!

Ohhhh all good things to think about! Especially breakouts. Normally I'm pretty okay, but occasionally around period week I get one that springs up so that's good to consider. And yeah, I just didn't know what it would feel like, glad everyone's giving it positive reviews!

I had airbrush makeup done for my sister's wedding last year and I didn't really like it. It didn't sit well on my skin, but I tend to have issues finding a good foundation for my skin type. I would suggest trying airbrush for your makeup trial and seeing how it sets! Most people like it so it's definitely worth trying!

@Allison & Katey - curious as a follow up if there was any streaking or if it was any different for you - i expect a lot of tears and don't know what to expect from streaking of airbrush vs. traditional.

I personally prefer traditional makeup over airbrush. You can't go wrong either way, it is just personal preference. Airbrush feels a little sticky to me.

A good MUA with good products should make the skin look flawless with traditional applications or airbrush.

IMHO- airbrush is NOT worth paying extra for. If it's the same price- you can try- sure- but I certainly wouldn't pay extra for it.

It honestly depends on your skin. And what you would feel the most comfortable in. Smiley smile If you are worried, ask if she can do a trial run with airbrush, and if you hate it, then proceed with "normal makeup" Hope this helps!

Such a great post! I was wondering the same thing. I'm familiar with makeup and have enough products to buy two houses with, but I've never tried airbrush. I have a few MUA friends I might have to use to see what I like best!

I did airbrush (and for reasons I'm too lazy to type out, didn't have time for a trial). I loved how it looks but close up it definitely did crack on my face...I can't really explain it but the makeup didn't sit well on my skin. I don't think my photog took and ultra closeups (don't have pro pics back yet though) so I doubt it's visible to anyone, but I noticed it when I was inspecting myself from five inches away in the mirror, lol.

However, it stayed on like a champ during sweating. A+ for sweat proof.

I've had both done, but I went with traditional for my wedding. I prefer the feel of it and I though it still looked flawless (I had a pretty bad breakout on my chin and it was not noticeable at all). I don't think airbrush is worth extra $$$

It might depend on the bride. i personally pile on makeup and love full coverage. I have red/pinkish skin tone and freckles. I had my makeup trial last week and going in, to save on money, was just going with regular makeup, but I really wanted to try airbrush. Once I got there, the girl convinced me to try airbrush and she said it lasts 12 hours and its sweat proof. Well, I had to tell her to put more on during my trial. I could still see my freckles (which is a no, no in my book). I wasn't too impressed but I am hoping the day of she piles it on me. ha!

For brides that don't wear too much makeup, it is very lightweight. It also depends on the other products (brands) that your MUA uses.

Airbrush it! ... waterproof airbrush it! I cried like a baby during the first look with my dad and the father daughter dance. Like bawled and my makeup didn't even run! it was so worth it!

Im an mua/hairstylist. i offer both to my clients depending on their needs.

Both have their pros and cons. All airbrush makeup is not created equal, not all artists are properly trained.

There are two main types of airbrush makeup used for bridal work - silicone based, or water based. There are also hybrids of the two (like the temptu airpod system sold to consumers).

Silicone based makeup is waterproof and truly long wearing when applied properly. It should have buildable coverage from sheer to full, depending on application. On the downside, because it is thicker, it requires a much stronger compressor and larger airbrush gun nozzle if you want to avoid cakiness and have a truly fine mist application - which the inexpensive dinairs and similar airbrush systems dont provide. It is 'blendable' until set, which makes integrating things like contour and highlight much easier.

Water based makeup is a sheer to medium coverage. Its lasting power isnt as great as silicone-based, but its still considered 'water resistant' once dry. On the plus side, it applies beautifully without caking through pretty much every compressor and airbrush gun on the market because of its fluid texture. Its also great for sensitive skins. I dont use water-based products too terribly often, but i tend to turn to it for my makeup-shy brides who arent used to wearing a lot on their face.

I use graftobian glamour creme foundation for highly textured skin, skin that requires a lot of color correcting or coverage, and certain mature skin types. I do charge more for airbrush, because the product is simply more expensive.

Ask your artist what they use. They should be able to tell you.

Pros and cons on both type but just pointing out info no one above has mentioned but for airbrush, as much as it is more like and natural, it's not best for mature skin. It tends to settle more in the lines of your face so if that is concern of the bride I think regular makeup is better. It's not as much noticeable irl but it is more obvious through photos.
