Airbrush Makeup

Katy , on February 19, 2019 at 2:58 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 10
I have my trial/consultation tomorrow with my hair/makeup artist. I think I want to try airbrush makeup but I’m not sure what to expect. Has anyone had it done before who can explain a bit of how it works or anything I need to know?

I did airbrush in 2017 when I was a bridesmaid, and I wasn't a fan. But I have dry skin around my nose/mouth and some acne scarring. I felt it clung to my nose & mouth, and my scars. She sprayed lotion on when I pointed it out, which made me temporarily look wet, then it dried to show my skin again. I honestly think only I noticed it though, my fiance didn't even notice. One of the other bridesmaids had really smooth skin and she looked awesome with it. I'm doing traditional makeup for the wedding day, but I did read if you want airbrush on your wedding day, doing microdermabrasion or dermaplaning prior can be really helpful so I'd talk to her about that. It just makes your skin a lot smoother. I'd make sure to go with well hydrated skin.

I don't love airbrush either. You skin has to be damn near perfect for it to come out properly. Also I love the the contour look which with airbrush they cannot do your face will be one solid color which some people may like but I prefer a beautiful contour.

I didn't know too much going in-- my picks for no minimum makeup artists were slim and that's what was offered. My skin is sometimes dry but not too bad and she did air brush for my makeup. I absolutely loved it, it felt light and natural. My makeup artist was hands down the best from assessing my skin during my trial and talking an 30 mins before actually applying anything. And following up after-- how it held up, etc.
The best thing about the trial is that your makeup artist should be very thorough and will talk with you and consult what you want. Be honest and see if it works in your favor!
If not you can always try something else!

I did airbrush for my wedding and I loved it! It was light and lasted all day and night on my combination skin. If contour is your thing, my MUA did a subtle contour, simply by switching the color in the "gun" thing, whatever it's called. In fact she switched colors several times throughout to make sure everything blended perfectly. My blush was airbrushed too.

I say try it, worst case you hate it, but it's only your trial!

I love airbrush because it has better staying power, better coverage, and doesn't streak if you cry or sweat. It also feels very lightweight. I have very dry skin so if that is an issue for you too then you will need to prep your skin a couple of months ahead of time with a skin care routine that adds extra moisture. My HMUA recommend Radha Rosehip Oil which I began using at my trial in October for my wedding in December. By the time my wedding came both my HMUA and I noticed the difference. At my trial, my skin was a little flaky with the airbrush makeup but I didn't have that problem at my wedding. In fact, even though I was 41 on my wedding day, my skin looked radiant. Here are some pics of me throughout the day of my wedding so you can see how long it lasted. It still looked so good by the time I went to bed I didn't want to take it off and actually still had my makeup on the next day at my farewell brunch.

I just did my trial last week and I loved having airbrush. I have dry skin, but I didn't find that it adhered to those spots or irritated my skin at all. The application process kind of felt like I was standing in front of one of those misted fans that they sometimes have at amusement parks. When it was all end, it felt incredibly lightweight and the finish looked very natural- my blemishes were covered but I still looked and felt like me. I have a difficult skin tone (mixed Asian/white) and with the airbrush she was able to really match my face.

This past weekend I had a wedding event where I went to a different makeup artist (a family friend arranged it, so I accepted the "gift" - ended up having to pay $60 so I'm still salty about that haha). She used regular makeup and it was awful. It clung to my dry spots, it felt incredibly caked on, looked unnatural, and at the end of the night when I washed my face I couldn't BELIEVE how much makeup was coming off! So maybe it was the artist's fault and not the makeup, but I felt like they had to do a lot less with the airbrush and it still looked way better.

I have more photos of the airbrush on my profile if you're interested

Also forgot to mention, I cried when I had regular, non-airbrush bridal makeup on and it streaked. So much. My nose became so red from crying, and since some of the tears had washed away some of the nose makeup, it looked like I was BLEEDING or had some kind of nasty nose wound because of the red skin showing through the caked on foundation around it.

Just here to say that you don't look 41 at all. I would have guessed that you're closer to my age (mid-twenties)! Your makeup is beautiful.

Thank you! Having a "baby" face is a mixed blessing - great socially, not so much professionally! Smiley heart

I'd never had my make-up professionally done, but went with daughter's HMUA and let her use her expertise to make all the choices. She did airbrush, and I have to say, I've never looked or felt prettier in my life. I'm extremely low-maintenance and wear minimal make-up daily. I felt like it looked light and natural, but just a more polished & "fancier" version of me. It lasted 14 hours without caking or settling (too much...I am 60) into wrinkles. I got TONS of compliments. (The best one? My BFF of 40+ years told me when I first came through the doorway, she thought, "Wow! Those are the prettiest bridesmaid's dresses I've ever seen." She didn't initially recognize me and assumed I was a BM! Smiley winking lol Good luck!
