Airbrushed v. Traditional Make-up

Rachel , on July 25, 2019 at 3:57 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 1 14
So I’m looking for a HMUA for my wedding next summer! The ones I’m looking at offer traditional make up or airbrushed make up. I’m just looking for opinions on which one you preferred and why. All the pictures I’ve seen of airbrushed make up looks caked on BUT I’ve heard that traditional make up doesn’t last as long, so I’m torn. I’m getting married in Texas in the middle of July so it’ll be super hot, but both my ceremony and reception are inside.

I prefer airbrush because it has better staying power, better coverage, and doesn't streak if you cry or sweat. However, if you have dry skin (which I do) you will need to prep your skin a couple of months ahead of time with a skin care routine that adds extra moisture (otherwise it can flake and not set well). My HMUA recommend Radha Rosehip Oil which I began using at my trial in October for my wedding in December. By the time my wedding came both my HMUA and I noticed the difference. At my trial, my skin was a little flaky with the airbrush makeup but I didn't have that problem at my wedding. In fact, even though I was 41 on my wedding day, my skin looked radiant. Here are some pics of me throughout the day of my wedding so you can see how long it lasted. It still looked so good by the time I went to bed I didn't want to take it off and actually still had my makeup on the next day at my farewell brunch.

I also loved the air brush makeup. It lasted all day and night in the Florida heart (I was married on the beach in May). It felt light on my face and looked very natural.

I prefer airbrush. I can’t tell it’s on and it didn’t cake or smudge all day I had it on and my skin was so smooth! The pic is from my trial. I drink tons of water and moisturize daily which helps reduce cakeiness caused from dry skin.

I’ve never tried airbrush, but I had traditional make up on my wedding day, a great quality setting spray— and my make up lasted the whole day! Outdoor, summer wedding ...I just saw a pic my cousin got from the *afterparty* at like 1 am (after a 3:30 pm wedding...make up prob at 11am), and remarked that my make
    up still looked ON Point!

I did a TON of research on this too... I opted for traditional makeup and they have setting sprays that make it stay for a long long time. I also learned that airbrushing has a limited amount of colors for foundation and if you’re not a perfect match it can look bad. Airbrushing is also not good on dry skin or skin with any wrinkles or fine lines. It is bad for sensitive skin. It also streaks (and you can’t blend it!) if you have a tear run down your cheek or something. #TeamTraditional up in here!

I used airbrush for my wedding! It doesn’t streak and stays on a looong time! Plus it feels like you aren’t wearing any foundation! Even my mother (who is 64) loved it as she has aged skin that can get dry. Definitely recommend 😊

I had a trial with traditional makeup (and supposedly a great setting spray) about a week ago on a pretty hot day for the Midwest (about 100 with heat index, yuck!) and within ten minutes of going outside and sweating a bit, it was streaking and running down my face. Very, very noticeably. Not sure if it was the makeup or the artist, but let me tell you: it wasn't pretty when it streaked.

We're getting married in early September, so the weather is a toss up (could be hot and sunny, could be cold and rainy!), so I can't have anything that can't stand the heat. Or my inevitable happy sobbing!

I'm doing my trial this weekend and my mua gave me the option of doing airbrush for my trial and if we don't like it she said we can always switch and do traditional makeup on the actual day. Maybe that might work for you?

You look great! Knowing that dry skin can cause the cakeiness is super helpful. Thank you!!

As a model I prefer airbrushed. It gives a much lighter, smoother look and the coverage( with someone who knows how to do it) is prefect.
If you have any fine lines traditional foundations and powders will, potentially, show them. Whereas the airbrush more or less sits on top as a light layer. If that makes sense.

I would ask them to do one of each type of foundation so as you can see how well it will last in the temperature you’ll be marrying in. So 2 different make up sessions.
