Aisle runner alternative

My venue requires an aisle runner. Before I settle on the roll out one, has anybody used something else or made their own? I keep trying to decide what kind of material would work. Tulle maybe?

    If they require it, maybe you can ask them for recommendations. That's a pretty odd requirement tho.
