Aisle runner for outside wedding?

Nicole, on January 28, 2016 at 12:15 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

I'm getting married in July and planning on having an outside ceremony. There will be grass and I was looking in on aisle runners and I've heard horror stories on both cloth runners and fake petals. Which is better for outside on grass? If not petals or cloth runners, is there any other options? Thank you in advance!

I heard almost all aisle runners on grass are an accident waiting to happen and a lot of venues won't allow them for safety. I seen suggestions on putting plywood down, rose pedals, or just lining an aisle with torches or something like that.

Definitely don't do fake petals outside. If any blow away, they become trash and litter rather than pretty decor. You can stick some shepherd's hooks in the ground and hang cute pomanders off them, or just not do anything at all. As long as the chairs are set up properly, no one will have any issues figuring out where the aisle is.

We are putting real rose petals down. Different shades of purple (kinda like an ombré effect)

Eta: we are getting married outside too under a weeping willow.

Don't do an aisle runner on grass, it's horribly unsafe. Even if no one actually trips, heels go through it, and wind picks it up. With chairs set up, it's pretty clear where the aisle is.

I'd say something along the sides to be safe, like those pretty pinwheels or even a garland?

You could hang pomanders or tin cones with baby's breath or other flowers: tulle or garland swags: if you must have petals you could look into freeze-dried ones that degrade naturally.

Real petals in a swirl pattern down the aisle is really pretty.

Do not do a runner -- whoever invented them should be strung up by the thumbs! They don't work on grass, sand, gravel, carpeting, or smooth floors -- just useless!

The only thing that does work is a real carpet runner and they just look out of place outdoors.

Cloth one will get incredibly dirty especially if the grass is wet at all. Do real flower petals or skip it.

Don't do a runner on grass or cobblestones.

Just skip it-- you'll save money, time, energy picking it out (and up) and it won't make one whit of difference after you're married, I promise.

I wish I could share this thread a million times to my mom. She thinks it will be safer to have a runner on the grass and I just think it will be tripped on the whole way down the aisle.

I kind of wanted to do a runner outside and thankfully WW talked me out of it! I would suggest lining your aisle. You can line it with lanterns, candles in cylinders, petals, flowers- you can hang them on the chairs, or from a shepherd's hook (like a kissing ball or in vases/jars), even potted plants depending on the style of your wedding... honestly the options are endless! Check out pinterest for some ideas.

I saw on Pinterest where she glued the petals to a strip of paper that was the length of her isle.
