Aisle runner - on grass?!

Ostrichfeather, on July 13, 2022 at 2:36 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 11

We are getting married in 81 days -- outdoors if weather permits! I am considering an outdoor aisle runner carpet or artificial turf runner to line our aisle for our ceremony.
Have any of you walked down a carpet aisle runner or artificial turf runner on grass? Does it work? Or is it not heavy enough to squash down the grass? I'm worried about it being harder to walk on than grass itself. I am wearing an absolutely marvelous pair of shoes that are not compatible with those heel savers people wear on grass. We are also lining our aisle with flower petals. What would you do? Skip the aisle runners altogether?

Our coordinator recommended against a runner for our outdoor wedding (on grass), because she said it would present a trip hazard.

I have heard this! That some even don't allow it at all for this reason. Maybe we better not. I wasn't sure if it was advised against a paper/plastic aisle runner, but maybe an artificial turf or carpet runner would be okay?

I think even carpets are liable to slipping or getting the ends rucked up. I would speak with your venue as well, they may not want a heavy runner on their grass either. Either way, unless there's a hidden spike on those heels, you shouldn't have a problem sinking in.

Unless you have something sturdy in mind (like a hard/ heavier plastic or other solid material), I'd skip it. Anything flimsy creates a hazard of tripping or potentially blowing away outside. Not to mention if someone's shoe punctures it, they could end up taking it with them to their seat lol.

I'd imagine you could rent something harder if you're set on some kind of aisle runner, but you should definitely talk to your venue coordinator about that first. Otherwise I'd just stick with the flower petals.

    LOVE those shoes btw!!!

Your shoes are FABULOUS!! My thoughts would be that a runner on grass might be more problematic than not. Is it possible to have to grass cut quite short before your wedding? It wouldn't get rid of the problem completely but by having it short, it would hopefully minimize the grass stains etc from coming up too high on the shoe. Does that make sense?! lol

Thank you!! I appreciate your reply. I’m thinking of just skipping the aisle runner now! I don’t know if I’ll be able to have them cut it extra short, I do imagine they’ll be cutting it before the weekend though. Really I just need to hope that the grass is not wet and the ground is not at all mushy!!!
