Just Said Yes March 2019

Aisle runner or no aisle runner is the question!

Amy, on October 2, 2018 at 3:11 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 16

Hey all! I'm getting married in March of 2019 (at my church in IL). I'm having trouble deciding on if I should use an aisle runner or not? Part of me thinks yes, since the carpet is an awful blue color. But the other part of me wonders if it's worth the extra cost? (I know it's not that much for one, but hey, a budget is a budget!)

I also have wondered this, but I think we are skipping it! We are also getting married in the church where the carpet is an AWFUL green color. I was just at a wedding last weekend where guests walked down the aisle all over the place and got the aisle runner a little messed up before the bride walked down (though, their aisle runner was a white runner carpet on grass outside) it still really bothered me, and I think we are just going to skip it because we could put that money towards something else and I don't think anyone will miss it.

If you think a runner would look best for photos then I would totally go for it. I'm getting married at a gazebo so we decided to just buy fake ivy and put drapes around the front of the gazebo along with the runner and flowers to give it a more wedding vibe. It would look also cuter for photos. I found a nice runner at joanns. It was 30 dollars but use a coupon they usually have it for 60 or 40 percent off a single item. I use a coupon and use an additional 25 percent off entire purchase (you can layer coupons there) and got my runner for 13 dollars.

I am anti-aisle runner. You really have three choices with them, none of them good:

    * Have the guests walk all over them, leaving them dirty and wrinkled before the processional begins.

    * Prevent the guests from walking on the center aisle, meaning they have to go round the sides and then scoot all the way across the chairs to sit down.

    * Wait to put the aisle runner down until just before the processional, meaning the whole processional gets held up while the guests get bored watching the aisle runner get put down.

Also since my wedding it outdoors, we decided to direct the traffic from not walking on the runner until after the ceremony since like you guys said it would get dirty and messed up. So maybe the church wedding would be harder to direct traffic to not use the middle walkway.

I’m not doing an aisle runner. I’ve seen too many times where it was messed up and almost caused someone to trip or stumble. I’m lining the chairs down the “aisle” with floral posies that will be repurposed for reception decor!

Check with your church to see what restrictions they have. My church does not allow aisle runners, petals, or open flames (unless unity candle). The reason they don't allow aisle runners and petals is because both are a slipping hazard and sometimes the petals can stain the dress.

If you do decide on an aisle runner, you can still have your guests enter the church pews from the side so they don't walk on the runner. I had garlands draping the pews so this is what we had to do with the guests.

Our wedding is outside I was Thinking about it today actually. I’m thinking no just because our ceremony is so short and sweet and spending money to literally walk on it lol just doesn’t seem like something we need. Like you said a budget is a budget lol

They are a tripping hazard. My photographer actually mentioned that dresses look better in photos without a runner because most dresses contrast better with the floor or ground. The details/texture of your dress will show up better without one.

Hi Amy! I agree with the others, aisle runners are non-essential and if you don't want them, they're definitely not required! You can always have petals on the ground or garlands across the seats to line the aisles, instead, if you want a little something to offset the aisle & floor.

What kind of florals are you including in your bouquets / wedding decor?

We put an aisle runner down at our venue and I'm so glad we did. It really helped boost the look of the space by covering a large area of concrete. $20 well spent.

My daughter is skipping the aisle runner because they can be a tripping hazard. She is also getting married in a church with carpet. It’s also not a necessary expense and trust me, those little expenses add up quickly!

We are not using a runner but have other aisle decorations. I did not want it to be plain but the runner would not work on the floor at the venue. We are doing something like this.

I think it would be pointless seeing as no one is going to be focused or even looking at the floor. and even if you did have the runner the rest of the church is still that same color right? so no big deal
