Aisle Runner -- What material?

Melissa, on December 22, 2014 at 2:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Hello fellow brides!

I am searching for an affordable aisle runner (<$100). I have spent hours looking at numerous websites online and can't decide on one. I want one that's non-slip and isn't see through. I only need a 30 foot one. What material is best? Any suggestions on sites to purchase from? Thank you!

First I would confirm that your venue will allow them...they can be a tripping hazard and someplaces won't let them be used.

I've seen them in heavy duty paper as well as fabric with fake petals glued on. typically they are a hazard for tripping etc. when do you want to have it rolled out? during the whole processional or just for your walk?

My venue does allow aisle runners. I'd like to have it out for the whole processional. I'm getting married at Lambeau Field (the fiance and I are huge Packers fans!) and the ceremony is on a balcony that overlooks the north end zone. The ground there is concrete so I'd like an aisle runner to soften up the look. I've looked on Etsy and found aisle runners I like but I just can't bring myself to spend $80+ for something I'll use for about 25 minutes!

I wouldn't even do it. Honestly.

I can't decide if it seems like a waste or not. I feel like it will just blow away, they're just so thin.

I would just skip the aisle runner. I always think of it as a waste. If your goal is to bring colour or something to the aisle, do it with flowers, candles, or some other decor either on the chairs or down the aisle. At least those items can be reused elsewhere or they can be resold afterwards.

Can you line the aisle with something like flower petals or something? I just feel like an actual aisle runner won't look good.

I am also getting married outdoors and the "aisle" is a concrete walkway. I ordered a linen one from the Knot for about $9 when they were having their sale and I am diy-ing my own petal aisle runner. I have 8000 ivory petals that are being dyed Sangria.

On amazon, you can order an under the runner mat to hold it in place. I am semi concerned about heels ripping through it and getting stuck though to be totally honest

I plan on doing pomander/kissing balls on the chairs along the aisle but with all the concrete and steel beams that are there, I feel like I still need something else to brighten up the space. I've thought about flower petals but it's in a football stadium high up on a balcony so it can get windy there so I don't want petals flying onto the field because I am responsible for the clean up!

I made mine out of burlap. 12 yards/36 feet for under $20 with coupon. Then I glued ribbon down each side to fancy it up a bit. Ribbon was technically 'Christmas' décor, so, I got 75 feet for under $10 bucks. It was time consuming, but, it was also much cheaper and better quality then anything I could find.

I also would jump on the bandwagon that you probably don't need one, I'm sure no one would notice if you didn't have one. I didn't really care if I had one or not, it was my maid of honor who was pretty set on me having one.
