Aisle runners

Jay1, on November 15, 2019 at 11:47 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 13

Is anyone having an aisle runner outside? My venue told me they're not that great for ceremonies outdoors because of bumps in the ground. I saw this new trend of having a mirrored reflective aisle runner ... I sort of want to try but fear this may be borderline over the top

I guess it will depend on how over the top your ceremony and decor is. If it doesn't go with your theme/decor, it may be a bit much.

For me I had one but ended up not even using it for my outdoor ceremony aha. I wanted to but then we realiZed we hadn't brought anything to put it down with and it was very flimsy.

Personally, I feel like most aisle runners end up looking really cheap. The photo is gorgeous though. I think it would have to be executed really well.

Aisle runners in general are a pain. You've got three options, none of them good:

    * Put the aisle runner down before the ceremony, and have people walking on it, messing it up even before your walk.

    * Put the aisle runner down before the ceremony, and rope it off so no one can walk on it, meaning people have to go all the way to the end of the row and then slide all the way back in order to be by the aisle.

    * Wait to put the aisle runner down until just before you walk, and have this long and boring pause while your guests all watch it being unrolled.

A professional photographer doing a posed photo can make it look good, because they aren't having to deal with actual guests. And they can go straighten out the part she already walked on before taking the photo. But think about the practicalities before deciding on one.

I have to second that last point you made about how a professional photographer doing a posed photo can make it look good. And that's because in that photo, where are the guests? The sides of her aisle are suspiciously bereft.

OP, it does look like the type of material both you and your parents and your entire wedding party will need to be barefoot for and you might get some grumbling over that. However, I think it's beautiful and if you can make it work, go for it.

But if not, and it becomes this nightmarish dream that can never be a reality, skip it altogether. We were going to do a runner but then decided not to because of all the same reasons PP discussed. We figure, people will know, based on where the chairs are, where the aisle is.

I should note: this aisle runner gives me huge Filthy Rich Asians vibes for sure!!! Smiley heart

Some places prohibit aisle runners because they are a tripping/slipping hazard. If you plan to wear heels, I would be very careful your heel doesn't get stuck in the runner.

My brother walked me down the aisle and managed to trip on my veil, so having an aisle runner probably would've been another hazard! Also, I've heard runners are hard to keep down without obvious tape, weights, stakes, etc.

I didn't even think of tripping hazards. Thanks guys! I think i'll skip. We have several elderly people who use canes attending wouldn't want them falling.

Personally I would not use one outside. The ground could be bumpy and depending on the material of it, rips are possible.

I’d use something to accent the walkway like flower petals or something and avoid actual runners

That is so pretty! But I agree with what everyone has said, if it doesn't really go with the rest of your decor, it may be a little over the top!

I love it. I looked in to renting. $45/sqft, for 42sqft outdoor area seems like it is too much.
