What have you ladies done about alcohol at the rehearsal dinner. Is is customary to have the members pay for alcohol themselves or does the couple pay?

My in-laws are Mormon so they are opposed to drinking and as they paid for the dinner they paid for everything but alcoholic drinks. They did the same at his brothers RD.

    .

At his brothers RD the MOB was very rude and insisted the drinks be paid for embarrassing my ILs and paying for them herself. She made it look as if they were cheap when that wasn't the case.

    .

At our dinner everyone was understanding and completely didn't care that they had to pay for their own alcohol and actually expected it would be that way.

    .

I have heard of dinner's where everything is free but the drinks so that is normal.

    .

I would look at it the same as the wedding we did a non hosted/cash bar where some people have open bar or a selection of drinks. No one finds a cash bar rude but totally love when it is open bar.

Generally I've seen where everyone pays for their own alcohol (which is what we decided to do) or has a bottle of red and white per table. When that's gone everyone gets more on their own.

We are having ours at a hibachi, which I think will be super social and fun. We are covering the meal and non alcoholic beverages.

I wanted to provide booze, but the budget is dictating otherwise.

I am SHOCKED by the folks opting to not have one. To me, it seems so selfish. It is supposed to be a thank you to all the people working extra to make your day special. A rehearsal dinner is t about the couple... it's about everyone else who doesn't have to, but is, going the extra mile for your wedding.
