Alfred Angelo Closing? UPDATED - THEY ARE CLOSED!

CountingDowntoMrs, on July 13, 2017 at 12:06 PM

Posted in Wedding Attire 161

Maybe I've been under a rock and this is old news or not true, but there's a post on a local FB page that all AA locations are closing today. Anyone know if this is correct? The post also says in-store items are up to 80% off. Update in comments.

I bought my dress at the Beverly Grove location in CA. Just went for my first fitting this past Sunday and nothing was mentioned to me. Does anyone know how to get into contact with the alteration people at this particular location? I know it's a third party, and they're based in Rancho Cucamonga, but they haven't picked up any calls and the voicemail is full. Help!!!

@Sarah M which Disney dress were you wanting? Look at the AA website and try to find other (non AA) stores that carry the Disney line. They'll probably be selling their sample dresses off the rack for a really decent price now. But I'd look quick!

This advice also applies to anyone else who wanted an AA dress. Hunt down the stores that carry them!!

@Dani, are stores still selling/ordering them? There were two Disney dresses I wanted to look at. I didn't know there were authorized stores selling them still!

My dress was/is inside the Dedham MA location for alterations.

Looking for any help to get it out of there. Drove to the store. Sign says closed and to email the lawyer. I did.

    Help.

The Bridal World in Freeport, NY is offering discounts for those affected as well. They made a post saying to bring in your receipt for special pricing on gowns. Just in case that helps anyone in that area.

@HisBeauty I don't know if they'll be ordering them, but if they carry Alfred Angelo, they'll have the sample gowns that they'll probably be wanting to sell of the rack at a really good price. So if you're lucky, the sample will be the style and size you want, or can at least be altered. Definitely look into the stores in your area that carried AA dresses and ask if they have the style numbers you're wanting to try.

@sarah - I would disagree. I did buy a bm dress from azazie but Alfred Angelo had treated my bm horribly in the past and when we went I wasnt impressed myself. There's so many factors that go into a business closing and shopping through Amazon and azazie is just one piece of a giant puzzle.

Sorry to all the brides affected and good luck!

AA went about the store closings in such a horrible way that I wouldn't doubt if they had lots of lawsuits coming their way from employees and brides who don't have their dresses and accessories they paid for.

I ordered my dress from there. Some stores aren't giving out their dresses to brides and maids. I am one of the few lucky ones. The gm of my location went in unpaid on Friday AM after the stores were closed Thursday permanently with no notice to call brides Who's dresses were in stock to come pick them up. I still owed almost $500 between my dress and accessories. She told me not to worry about it and she needed to make sure her brides wedding days weren't ruined by this. I feel horrible for those who are stuck in dress limbo.

@Danielle, and others, think a bit more, of course the website is still live, there's no one working for the company anymore to change it or take it down.. it will stay as is until the website host doesn't get paid and they disable it.

@Sarah a shop local to me posted this, so I'm going to assume that no, you can't get an AA dress from a shop that carried them. This particular shop is selling any AA samples of gowns and BM dresses to anyone missing their dress

According to the bankruptcy attorney, she received over 7500 emails from brides and is prioritizing them by wedding date to get people their dresses. They accepted a cargo load of fabric from china and are trying to get a loan so those dresses can still be made

@PairofWulfs usually companies filing for bankruptcy will put up some sort of message and who to contact about more information. Even Madoff Investment Securities and Dewey & Leboeuf did that within 24 hours.

To add to the list of bridal shops that are trying to help out brides who had ordered AA dresses, the shop where I got my dress in Delaware (Louis Marie Bridal) is offering discounts on Justin Alexander and Allure gowns to brides that bring in their AA receipts.

The reality is they most likely are going out of business. Most in the industry agree that its past the 'if' stage and to the 'when' stage. Big businesses like this don't notify the employees or customers before they close down...that would cause even more losses. One day there are signs on the door and the business is done. And lots of people (employees and customers...not to mention the creditors that they owe millions to) get screwed immediately with little help to be found anywhere. Look at alfred angelo, although they had less retail stores than David's Bridal, they may have had more sales than them as a company. They were the largest manufacturer of dresses and were carried by thousands of independent stores across the world (not just the 60+ branded stores they had). If you google search Davids Bridal going bankrupt, they are listed on all the sites that post retail stores on life support. They have more debt than they will be able to service in 2019 and the only question right now is if they'll make it that far. Once the debt comes due, it's almost a 100% certainty that the company will be done. But it's also more probable than not that the bankruptcy will happen much sooner than that. The argument about them getting a new line or how big they are isn't a good argument if you look at the history of how these normally happen. Alfred Angelo had a brand new line of dresses that never even hit the stores but were made overseas already...those all made their first appearances at the liquidation auctions. I'm not trying to scare anyone here, but just trying to make sure that people understand that when a company gets to this point, it's definitely a roll of the dice if you are ordering something that you can't take home today. How much of a risk? That's hard to say, but I am extremely confident that the pain felt when alfred angelo closed 61 stores will be even greater when Davids Bridal closes 300+ stores…and when there are other great discount dress stores out there like Bridepower or Vows Bridal Outlet on the East Coast or Brilliant Bridal in the West (and plenty of others as well), I don’t think I would personally recommend any of my friends to take that risk! But that’s just meSmiley smile
