Alfred Angelo Sizing - Run BIG?

HoundMama, on October 2, 2012 at 1:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Has anyone had an AA dress or AA bridesmaid dresses? My BM dresses are AA and when the seamstress measured my girls and compared it to AA's chart, I thought the measurements sounded a little off. For instance, one of my BM's is pretty small - normally wears a 2/4 - her wedding dress was a 6. According to AA her measurements make her LESS than a ZERO, so we are going to have to order a 0 since that's the smallest they make. Then they started measuring the rest of the girls. One BM who is a 12 measured as a 10, one who is normally an 8 measured as a 6. I'm really nervous about these sizes the girls will order. Has anyone ever heard that AA runs BIG? I always thought formal dresses ran small?

I bought a brand-new discontinued AA dress that is a 16W - Size 16 but "womans" cut - a little fuller. I was a almost an 18 when I bought it and was a tad tight - which would make sense.

In the case - I thought it ran true to size. I'm a size 14 now and had it altered to fit.

See - I kind of remember that because I wore an AA in a wedding several years ago. At the time I was a 20 but my dress was an 18 and needed taking in. I'm a 12 now, but my wedding dress is a 16 (DB). I just want to make sure the girls dresses fit when we get them. But I don't want them to spend $200 getting their dresses altered because I told them to order a size up to be safe. They shouldn't even bother putting size tags in formal dresses, lol. Smiley smile

Hmm... I can't really say about my wedding dress, because it is a size 6 but has a corset back so it could technically be a size bigger or smaller on me.

But, two of my girls measured bigger than they thought they were (but they've gained a little weight) and one measured right on. So, it's been okay for me.

I'd be a little nervous too- I'd rather get dresses that were too big than too small! At least you should have plenty of time- if you order now and turns out they messed up the measurements, you should be able to get them returned and back in time. (not that you need that extra stress, but still)

Can they actually go into a store and try on the dresses? That might be best if you are worried about sizing.

They have already tried on the sample the store had (of course they only had one and it was a size 8. They were measured by the seamstress at the store. I watched her measure them and looked at the chart myself, but I can't help but feel it's really weird that the actual size numbers are smaller than the size they wear in real life when formals usually run small. My girl who normally wears an 8 and they called her a 6 by AA standards said the 8 was a little big through the top, but not much. And this is a dress that has been tried on and stretched out. The BM who wears a 12 but was measured as a 10, tried on a different size 8 AA dress and she couldn't even zip it up - so I'm skeptical that one size up will fit her perfectly. Maybe I'm over thinking this. I want the girls to have dresses that fit, but I don't want to be all, "No way you're that small order a size bigger!!" lol I mean, who DOES want to hear that?

I went to try on dresses tehre a couple months ago. I was a size 10 but ended up trying on 8s instead because the 10s were huge. I would have them double check the girl who was sized up, and trust the girls who were sized down. If you are ordering soon, you will have time to fix mistakes, get a new dress before your wedding.

    Also- yay date twin!

I normally wear a size 4-6. Wedding dress was a trumpet style.. they ordered me a size 2. I am 5'5" weigh 122 lbs, my weight has never fluctuated. I have been the same size for 12 years. The dress was TOO SMALL!!! The first fitting I couldn't even get it over my hips. It was a rush order and not enough time to order another one. So they said "oh we can let it out". Disaster... disaster disaster.!!!! During the two fittings I said to the seamstress "THIS DRESS IS TOO SMALL!!! " They assured me that it was the right size and that it "wouldn't move." Disaster!! The bodice was too short on the dress and as a result, the dress started migrating South as I was walking down the aisle. I my chest was hanging out all night and I have been in tears ever since. They need to take into consideration the style of the dress before they go ordering the wrong size. Especially a size down. I am very distraught over the fact that all my wedding guests had to stare at my boobs all night !!!!!
