All Black Wedding- Mothers of the Bride Groom

Bethany, on June 21, 2021 at 10:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
HELP!!!! My fiancé and I are getting married in December and both bridesmaids and groomsmen will be wearing black. Bridesmaids will have white flowers with greenery (eucalyptus/assorted vines) and the groomsmen boutonnières will match. I’m adding in subtle hints of gold. What colors should the Mothers of the Bride/Groom wear?! If read that they shouldn’t wear the same colors as the wedding party but should be along the same palette. A black theme makes this difficult IMO. Share your black themed wedding photos and ideas please!🥰

They can wear any color they want. They do not need to match or be a part of the same color palette as the bridal party. I would just ask them to wear whatever they are comfortable in as long as their outfits match the formality of the wedding.

I agree with Veronica. I don't think they need to wear or avoid any specific colour, unless you particularly wish them to, or they want to! My mother, for example, was adamant that wearing black would make her look like she was going to a funeral and that she didn't approve of the marriage so she refused point-blank to wear it, lol!

They can wear whatever makes them feel beautiful and comfortable. No need for them to coordinate with the wedding party. Smiley smile

Maybe something gold, silver, or burgundy for December? Do you have any accent colors?

Typically parents where whatever they prefer, as long as it’s appropriate for the venue. Unless they specifically asked you, I would not suggest a color for them to wear.

What parents wear varies by culture and social group. In my circles, the parents always coordinate with the wedding party in some way even if not exactly matching. I went to a wedding that sounds like yours (black & white theme with a bit of greenery) and the moms both wore dresses with a mix of black and silver. If you PM me, I can show you pictures.

Dont' dictate what colors the parents wear - with a black color palette, literally any color they pick will look nice.

I agree. Anyone not in the wedding party does not need to match/complement, but I do think its fair to ask that they don't wear colors that clash. Our wedding colors were shades of soft pink and navy, so I just asked our moms to avoid orange or red (my SIL ended up wearing orange, but it was a soft sherbet pastel shade, so looked fine). Any color can work with black!

Yes, this. And the good news is that everything goes with black.

This seems to vary by circle, cultural background, etc.
First, I’d let them know you’d like them to fit with the color scheme - one of them may not be familiar. I hadn’t heard of it till seeing it here, but lots of people do it this way.
Then, if they are ok with it, talk about what that means. Mostly black? If there is a metallic color, what if the dress was that with black accents, that sort of thing?
