All the hype

The best advice a good friend gave me was to prioritize three things we wanted to spend money on and use that to figure out where we could reduce. Our most important things together were venue, food, drinks. We are having a family member make bouquets with bulk flowers and using potted plants, we made our own playlists a friend will manage, we bought inexpensive (but still tasteful) stationary, and the dress, makeup, and hair are coming from my personal savings rather than shared money (his tux and accessories came from his). We are still spending quite a bit but have managed our budget that way. Good luck!

Hi jhall I felt the same way here 49 going on 50th this yr. I have been so happy that finally it's really about to happen to me like I'm about to get flipping married 🤣🤣🤣you can really imagine what I said. At first he wanted to elope but I was like we have never be married close but didn't happen. So yes as we started talking about it so he gave in and is letting me have my wedding.So we started looking at venues and what do we want outside or inside or both so we. Are looking for these things and then writing down what we really want then we are looking herlaring these prices were out of this world 🤯😬its like the mintue they hear wedding they are hearing that chingy chingy dollars signs in there heads everything is connected especially these hotels. And other venues tell you that they t can do this and that. Me and my other ppl seen a few and left immediately I hope that you find happiness in it again and you both the best wedding day ever

I think that’s what’s so annoying too is that the minute you add the word “wedding” to the conversation the price doubles or triples and you just see people’s eyeballs turn into dollar bills just spinnin around in their head. Luckily our venue is my home so I just need a tent and a catering team which takes care of a lot of it but flowers are hella expensive and so is a DJ and photographer. So I’m thinking of cutting costs there. I have over a year so I think if I pace myself I will be okay. But still it’s going to be over what I was originally hoping to spend. I have to stop thinking about what other bills I could pay off instead of putting it towards a wedding lol.

View Quoted Comment That's part of it too paying the other Bill's on top of the wedding. It's in October of this year so we have cut cost on flowers we will silk flowers instead. We will make our own centerpieces for the tables our and I the bountaires and bouquets for the wedding party. Our venue is half of the cost because it's on a weekend. I have my God son is doing our catering and me and my friend who is a event planner is doing this for free. But I will be going something to show my gratitude photographers we have for half the price because we were in a contest and we came in as runner up DJ came with the venue but he does have a little price for the time that we need for our ceremony starts in the evening.

It was my 1st marriage (I was 44), his 2nd (56). After we set a budget we decided a smaller guest list would enable us to splurge more on the events (we had a micro destination wedding and a local reception). And we love themed events so our wedding reception was inspired by Disney’s pirate ride & movie, our local reception was a swanky 50’s/60’s dinner & dancing party.
After 40, your priorities can be different. Want small & casual? A huge party? Exotic elopement? It’s YOUR wedding and you’ve waited a long time to find your match. Celebrate any way you wish! 💕

View Quoted Comment Backyard wedding in the fall with fall color themed with like dark teal, orange, yellow, merlot, and gold bridesmaids dresses. We have a nice view of the mountains and sunset at my house and lots of yard so country rustic I guess lol!

View Quoted Comment Whoa. That’s a lot of people for a backyard wedding. Have you compared the costs of all your rentals to a venue? Lighting (if at night), bathrooms, weather proof stuff (tent for rain or heat) maybe heaters for cold nights, plus tables, chairs, etc. Venues often have all of that included so often a venue ends up less expensive than a backyard wedding.
