Almay and Revlon makeup advice?

Kristina, on November 17, 2009 at 9:46 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Hi lady's,

So on black friday Almay and Revlon face, lip, and eye cosmetics are going to be 50% off at meijers, so I wanted to buy some to experiment with since I don't own very much makeup. I was wondering if anyone has ever used these brands and if they worked well?

I was thinking of using Almay for the cover-up type stuff. I was thinking of buying "bright eyes" concealer, smart shade blush, TLC 16 hour makeup (coverup) and TLC powder. Is powder necessary over a cream? I feel like there's going to be a lot of stuff on my face. Powder helps you look less shiny in pictures, right?

Then with Revlon I was thinking of trying their colorstay mineral lipgloss, colorstay ultimate liquid lipstick, or colorstay overtime.

Has anyone ever used any of these products/how was your experience? I really appreciate any comments. Also if there's an almay or revlon face, lip, or eye product I didn't mention that has worked awesome for you I'd love suggestions. Thank you.

I use Almay liquid concealer. And it covers up the red and acne. Then I use CoverGirl powder... I can't remember what it is off the top of my head... and that just 'seals the deal' and makes my face not shiny and all one even color.

I don't know about these specific products, but I can give you a couple of pointers from a wedding photographers perspective....

If you aren't someone who wears a bunch of makeup generally, don't plan on going over board on your wedding day. All it will do is make you conscious of your face all day long.

That being said, definitely wear some makeup. A liquid or semi liquid foundation is nice as it will stay all day and help with the shiny factor. There are also oil reduction sheets (buy them at target or rite aid by the face wash stuff) which helps a ton with shininess without hurting your makeup at all. I carry them around with me so that if I notice my bride or groom getting shiny, I can just grab them out of my camera bag.

Also, mascara and eye liner is a must. You want your eyes to pop in the photos and mascara and eye liner are what really makes that happen! I love the pink and green bottle of maybeline mascara (waterproof) because it isn't clumpy and it is like $5!

    Good luck

Oh and also do a "test" run with your makeup before the day of. Put on the makeup as if it is your wedding day, then have a friend take you outside in natural light, but in shade somewhere (side of a building, inside right next to a big window, or somewhere like that) and have them take a picture of you without using flash and one with using flash. Some makeup (specifically concealer) blends in to your skin when looking at it, but for some reason stands out in photos... so you don't want that to happen! If it is the kind that stands out, you will be able to instantly tell in the photo as you will look like you have racoonn eyes.. just backwards cuz they will be lighter rather than darker than the rest of your skin.

Well... im a makeup freak. when it comes to drugstore products i just HAD to tell you that the revlon colorstay liquid foundation is the best drugstore foundation there is out there (in my opinion). it last very long, and has a very good amount of coverage and u have the option to choose from dry or oily skin. it is very comparable to a lot of the "high end" foundations that i have. but once again, this is just my opinion, everybody has something that works for them. but i figure, it wouldnt hurt if u try it. (i find almay foundations tend to be really oily, and come off easily). about concealer, i wouldnt know what to tell you, havent tried either from any. but when it comes to lipgloss or lipstick, that is a lot of the same, is all about finding the color that you would want and love.

Revlon Colorstay Liquid foundation is great; it is really long-lasting. So are Revlon lipsticks and glosses. You will need Translucent Powder to set the foundation initially and to use it during the Big Day to prevent shine. No matter what brand eye shadows you use, they are not going to stay put if you won't apply professional-grade eye shadow base. Don't forget that Maybelline Mascara is the best and stays put wonderfully (of course you will need "waterproof" version for your Big Day). And finally, when your makeup is done, spray it with Model in a Bottle Makeup Setting Spray to make is stay all day(you'll find it at: http://forprincessbride.com/store/page4.html

). How to apply makeup in a professonal manner? Print out instructions off my website: "Professional Makeup Application Tips". And don't forget to practice!!! Good luck to you and enjoy your wedding!

I am a big fan of revlon, but I'm constantly trying out new stuff from drugstores. I do recommend buying an eyelas curler, adn the best way to curl your lashes is to turn on the blow dryer and put the curler in front of the nozzle, let it heat up a bit, but not enough to burn, and curl and then coat with mascara, then let that coat dry, do another and I like to add extra sweeps of mascara to the outer top corner lashes..Makes them pop! I'm horrible at eye liner, so what I do is I out on a nuetral base eye color, to blend all the color, then make tiny dashes along the lash line and smudge with a qtip, then put all my eye color on. And I always put blush on first after I hae my face prepped with foundation, I always find I don't put enough on after all the redness from the blush brush goes away!

Revlon color stay products are a great drug store choice. The Color Stay foundation has a silicon ingredient that helps it stay puts. The "flex technology" that is advertised on the commercial is their slogan for a silicone based makeup. Many of the color stay, ultra last, long wear type products use silicone as their base ingredient and this is what gives the makeup staying power. I like Almay because they have made buying the right shade of eye shadow so easy. The package will tell you what shade goes great with your eye color. Another drug store brand I like is Loreal.

Thanks for all the advice guys ^^ I think I'm going to try Revlon for the cover-up stuff and lipgloss. I'll be sure to practice practice practice. If anyone still has advice to give I'd love to hear it, thanks again for all the great advice I've gotten so far.

    Hi there

I dont know much about almay..but I agree that Revlon Brand as a whole is a very good reliable drug store choice. I like their primer.the texture is similar to that of smashbox primer which is a big fav but Revlons is only around 11 dollars..compared to the 40 or more for smashbox..But, it really helps the foundation lay nicely and keeps things in place. Also I agree on the lip colors Revlon makes..long lasting...

I also agree with the photographers posting..oil blotting tissues on hand are helpful..your Lip color and a compact with translucent powder.i actually love one made by urban decay which can be found at sephora called Deslicker..i use it for photo shoots//film ect to keep everyone away from shine. Smiley smile its a little pricy at around 29.99 but well worth it .should last you a year. you can use it way beyond your wedding day and kep in your purse! But a regular translucent powder from the drug store shouldnt be more than 5 dollars Smiley smile

    best wishes!

Also, If you really want your eyes to pop! and for those beautiful profile shots...test out some lashes from the drug store..you can try individual lashes 5 or 6 right on the outer edges of the eyes or a full set.. they can be purchased for around 4 dollars a pair usually come with glue..Revlon makes great ones.they look natural and the glue that comes with drys clear and holds well...practice a few times ..big difference especially in photos.. Smiley smile people will think you had a pro Smiley smile

For a drug store brand, Revlon Colorstay Liquid foundation is really good. I'd also suggest a eye primer, blotting sheets, water proof mascara, line your lips and fill them in with the lip pencil so that your lipstick last longer. Practice, Practice and more Practice before so that you nail down the look you want and have a chance to test it out. I have personally tried some of the almay shawdows and they are ok if you use a primer but I would still test it out before.
