Alterations Help! Pronovias Gown

Jessica, on November 6, 2020 at 9:44 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Hi brides!

I'm trying on my actual dress for the first time since choosing the sample months ago, tomorrow! I've been googling other brides who have had this gown (Pronovias - Style "Princia") in the past and I noticed something.

The second photo is EXACTLY how I want my dress to fit me. I love the way the flare is so extreme. What do I request from the seamstress/tailor to ensure my dress fits like this and not like picture #1? I love how the dress really accentuates the bride's curves.

The second dress was taken in all the way down to the knees. If you would like it tight that far down, it would need it taken in (which, btw, is going to involve them having to remove the lace to alter the dress, then replace it, which will not only change the pattern of the lace, but will also cost a lot more in alterations). However, I will caution that it is often times hard to move or dance in a dress that is that tight, that far down. If you are just looking for the sharp flare, you could add a mermaid style petticoat under the dress to give it that dramatic fullness, without having to take the dress in.

Here is an example of a mermaid style petticoat that you could wear under your dress to give the flare more fullness

I would show her the picture and if she's an experienced seamstress she should know exactly what to do!

It can be done, but make sure you are comfortable. My friend had a dress that was tight all the way done and you can tell she was uncomfortable moving. I also think it depends on the body shape too.

Hi Jessica, What did you end up doing with your dress? Did you have it altered? Best, Debra
