Alterations...how early should i start?

Fia, on July 2, 2019 at 9:20 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
So I'm about 4 months till our wedding day. And have decided I want to use a different seamstress/alterations person than the seamstress at the wedding gown store to do my bustle and shortening of my straps, and sewing on my sash. How early should I start? Some of my friends are telling me I shouldn't wait...I explained I wanted to wait till it was closer to our wedding in case I need to have the dress taken in a bit...but they are still insisting I start sooner than later. Your thoughts and advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you have a specific person you want for your alterations, I would call them and ask when you should begin alterations. If you are searching for a seamstress, I would call around about time periods and costs. I called my bridal salon the other day to ask when I should come in to begin my alterations, she said about 2-3 months from the wedding. I'll have to go about 4 months out due to tax season. As long as you have your final fitting close enough to your date but far enough out to finish any other alterations by your wedding, I think everything will work out!

My wedding is October 19th, and David's Bridal said I need to come in middle to end of August for my first fitting

I'd recommend calling the people doing the alterations, but mine tole me to come in about 12 weeks before the wedding for the first fitting, and to expect to make 2-3 appointments to get everything right. I don't have much for them to alter other than length and bustling, so I'm hoping it'll just be two.

I will be starting 1.5 months out from the wedding because I'm currently in the process of losing weight. My seamstress suggested this!
