Alterations Snag

AJ, on August 22, 2018 at 6:48 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7
I brought my dress in for alterations in early July, but my wedding isn't until 9/29. I brought it so early in case it needed any bodice work (lots of appliques). It ended up only needing the sleeves taken in a little and a bustle added, I asked if I could come back in later to check that I like the fit before it's too close to the wedding. I've been losing a little weight and didn't want to pick it up in mid-September just to find that it's suddenly too loose or the sleeves still aren't right.

She is the only seamstress within an hour, and does great work for low cost (my total is $50).
I go in at my scheduled time today for that second appointment...and she hasn't even touched my dress yet. She was working on a TON of dresses for events with a closer deadline, which is understandable, but she didn't even call to tell me. It was like she completely forgot about my appointment. So I couldn't try it back on, I have no way of knowing if the fit is still good, and it won't be ready until 9/7. If it needs no other work that's perfectly fine, but do you think it would leave enough time for corrections or additional alterations?

I would have told her about you losing weight and requested to try it on again. Seems reasonable in case you did loose slot. Good luck and congratulations on your special day!

Don't worry too much. My seamstress told me she could alter mine the week of our wedding if needed!

My seamstress is employed by my bridal shop but she had told me she works 2 days out from my appointment to have everything done. She had said with her system, even if she had to take it in a size or so, that would be adequate time, but that I always need to schedule with her so she has it done. So it can be done but your seamstress needs to live up to her word and appointments.

I would call her and ask her if you need other adjustments when you come in on 9/7, it is safe to assume she'd be able to have everything completed by 9/14-9/15 to leave yourself a week before the wedding. You won't change much in a week's time and this way you won't have the stress to hope she's done.

You’ll be fine. I went today for my fitting and they were prepared to take it in again if needed and it would have to be done before next Friday. You’ll definitely be okay

That's plenty of time! My dressmaker made my entire dress in a matter of weeks. A few alterations are nothing!

Call her and voice your concerns. Ask to go back for another fitting so that she can take into account your weight lose
