Alterations

Aleaj, on September 7, 2019 at 3:21 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 38
Ok so my dress came back yesterday, and i met with the alterations lady today. She told me that it would be about $550 for alterations?! She had to adjust my straps and tool at the bottom, that is all. I feel like that is soo expensive. How much did you all pay for alterations, is this an average price for the amount of work being done?

How many layers is your skirt? That may be why. Mine were about that much for taking in the bust, hemming, and a bustle for a lace fit and flare.

That sounds like too much just for that. I had the tool removed, the bottom hemmed , buttons for bustle and it was taken in on my dress for $400.

I paid $500 for alterations. If your dress has a lot of layers that’s the reason for the price. Alterations are priced per layer of fabric.

I think that sounds about right from what I've seen

That seems about right. I think I paid $500-$600 for my wedding dress and $400 for my reception dress.

The bridal shop I worked for would quote $600-$850 for basic alterations (bustle, hem, waist).

Like everyone said if it has layers then there’s the reason! I paid $850 (ouch) and they had to do work on the armholes (bring them down), shorten the dress that has 9 layers and remove it from the torso and shorten it there instead of at the bottom, adjust the straps and make them longer, add an inch to the back, fill in with more lace where alterations were done, and also are steaming it for me before the big day. Whew!

Yeah it needed a lot of work. It was ordered too small (partly my fault) and the way the dress was built was different from my body type.

Mine had a lot more to be done and it was only $142.00.

She also told me how much it was going to be prior to it being due.

I paid at my last fitting and took the 👗with me when I left.

She was $26/hr and provided an itemized Invoice.

    Ask for that.

I paid about $1300 total for mine, but it involved hemming 9 layers of tulle, taking in the top, taking in the front, taking in the butt (it’s a meemaid), and the bustle (80 hooks 😱)

its also heavily beaded so she had to take off and then rebead it.

I paid $400 with a $50 discount. My seamstress charges a flat rate to all her brides, so it’s good if you need a lot done but probably not the best option if you only need a few adjustments. I didn’t shop around, I just used the lady my bridal shop recommended.

That seems expensive. I had to have a bustle added, the sleeves shortened, a hem and a panel adjustment. It costs $354 all together.

My dress was 950 and alterations were 325. My dress is from Nordstrom so I get a 200 credit back to use towards future purchases.

My alterations were $135 since all that had to be done was take the bust in a little and add a bustle.
