Alterations.

How much did you pay for alterations? did you go to someone at the bridal shop you purchased your dress from? or did you find someone else to do them? My dress shop is charging roughly $800 or more on alterations

Okay so your making me nervous for my alterations. That’s a lot. What May I ask are you having done? Luckily I don’t need the length altered , just majorly taken in and I’d like to add buttons in the back and some embellishments...

I paid $450 to replace the entire illusion back (sample dress and had a hole), add a bustle, and bring in the top so it fit me properly. Then, I paid $60 on my second dress to have just the straps tightened. First dress had tons of heading and appliqués along the back. Second dress was simple lace top. I found a seamstress who came highly recommended by other brides in a regional wedding FB group.

I paid $600 to get a hem, bustle, shorten the straps, and to take the bust in from the bridal shop. It completely depends on the material of the dress and where you live. It's most likely cheaper to get a seamstress outside of the bridal shop to do it, but the bridal shop obviously specializes in bridal dresses

So depends what you need done. My dress store didnt have an in house seamstress. I used a friends seamstress and i just recently went to her house. There was alot of taking in because im 2 dress sizes smaller than i was a couple months ago. And the boobs are too big and need structure so more supoorting straps under my actual straps and the beads i guess were scratching me, i didnt notice the marks till she was pointing it out . So we are lining the dress then adding a bustle.. Mine all together it was $500. My friend said i got a great deal because for all the stuff i need it would have been like 800. My friends dress store has a minimum 500. Im like jeez 😳 who would have thought this was a big expense.

My bridal shop didn’t offer in house alterations. I found a lady who works out of her home. I had it taken in, sleeves added, and a bustle. It cost $100 I was very happy with her work.

Alterations are totally dependent on how much work you are having done and how intricate your dress is. A fully beaded or lace dress is going to be more expensive than a plain dress, etc. I had my dress hemmed ($260) added a bustle ($50) and changed the back to a corset ($150).

That's a lot for alterations! I'm planning on going to a different person then the place I bought my wedding dress. The bridal shop told me my alterations can cost up to the same price I bought my dress!

That's insane!!! I just went last night to see about alterations and fixing issues since the company that made the dress first off refused to fix some things. .... i paid $687 for a custom dress by ieie bridal (her communication sucks, btw, and only does so via email "so she can reference back to it" and yet STILL doesn't do what i asked and she agreed upon, and i couldn't meet up with her to fix the issues)

found someone that does alterations in house, an hr from me, so my mom and I drover over last night, she was amazing and very friendly, and knowledgeable!! For hemming the skirt, fixing the pockets in the skirt, and taking in the bodice (to make it more form fitting), fixing the cold shoulder sleeves the first lady butchered , and adding to the corset lacing length, I was quoted $150 total. and I will be going back in 2-3 weeks to see how that is coming along if we need any more or not! I was happy with her quote!!

As others have said, it depends on what you need done and what kind of dress you have.

I bought a sample sale dress that was several sizes too big -- which meant I needed pretty much everything altered: the straps, taking in the sides, a hem, etc., plus a bustle. My dress was also very detailed, so alterations came in at about $750.

(I used the seamstress at the shop I bought my dress from; she has 30+ years experience and recently opened her own bridal/alterations shop. Did a phenomenal job!)
