Altering dress to corset back on beaded bodice ?

Check with a seamstress to make sure it is possible. My SIL bought her dress at David's Bridal and was hoping to do the same thing. When she took it in for alterations she found out the material and construction of the dress would not allow for that kind of alteration. She ended up returning the original dress (for a full refund since the sales associate misled her) but had to go dress shopping all over again.
