Alternative Garter Toss Ideas Needed

Joanna, on March 13, 2017 at 7:15 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 28

I know it's not something that is being done as much but I have an alternative for the bouquet toss that includes all of the female guests attending the reception. I'm looking for alternatives for the guys to participate in. What kind of things are you thinking about or have seen?

You don't need an alternative. Just don't do it. I'm not doing either. I hate participating in them and I won't force my few single friends to participate either.

I have never seen a garter tossed, or any alternative, in my life, and I'm 30. The last time I saw a bride tried to toss a bouquet, no one particpated, and it hit the ground. A woman at a table next to the dance floor picked it up.

What's your alternative to the bouquet toss?

I'm so sorry I do not have any ideas but I was wondering what is your bouquet toss alternative?

My Alternative bouquet toss is having a small bouquet in like a bird cage or terrarium with a lock, whomever has the key that fits get the bouquet and the cage. That way there is no trampling of little kids or elbows in faces.

I did the bouquet toss but not the garter toss. No one missed it and no alternative was necessary.

We are putting the Garter on a football for my FH to throw! He loves football so It makes it more personal! Also the person who catches the garter will get a football Smiley smile

Smart idea! It can be painful! So you need something where the guys won't be trampling over each other also? How about the charm cake idea? I've heard of it for the ladies but maybe you could do one with a grooms cake? And you can have a manly charm like a football or whatever your fiancées favorite hobby is..

These ideas don't sound any better than the traditional bouquet/garter toss...

I don't think we need to put down anyone's ideas. They're just suggestions because it sounds like she would actually like to do something. That's all. Congrats on your wedding though, you're only a month away!

My MOH just gave me a suggestion that I need to get approval on from our reception site. Use a piñata and whomever cracks it open gets the garter, that way there is something for all ages.

@danielle she posted on a public forum and asked for advice and opinions. I'm allowed to criticize an idea, which is exactly what I did.

@Bemyguest also if you read my post I was looking for something to include all guests not just single guests because I don't have a lot of single friends but I still like the idea of a little tradition just changing it up.

We are putting a garter on a rugby ball, since my FH is a rugby player! We may even do it personalized not sure, we are just going to have fun with it. Not sure if we will do the whole thing after, honestly it could get creepy sometimes!
