Alternative place cards?

Brooke, on December 13, 2021 at 8:42 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
I’m having a destination wedding with about twelve guests outside of the bridal party. I really liked the idea of using one of these as place cards for my luncheon following my ceremony. I was thinking of just texting each party (there are three besides the head table) and telling them which table they’re at and to find their names in either the drink stirrer or drink charm (depending on which one I choose) St John is windy as it is and my wedding is in Bordeaux mountain, higher up and my wedding coordinator send paper place cards are a no go. Any thoughts on this or whether one would be better than the other? Guests could take these with them like an additional favor too which I thought was cool.

Oh those are cute! I personally prefer the stirrers!

You could also get vinyl stickers like these:

Those are super cute too! All of our glassware is borrowed/rented so probably couldn’t use vinyl unfortunately. But I was mostly wondering if this was an okay way to mark peoples seats because I would have the glasses with the place setting at the table, it wouldn’t be like an escort display or anything

I think it's fine. Where I'm from, escort cards are uncommon, and so seats are almost always marked exactly like this - just with an item with their name on it! we're doing cookies with embossed names for ours, but basically anything with the name is fine.

The only issue I see with glasses at each place setting is health department food safety laws that require a clean glass for each drink, unless this is for water service only. If you have assigned seating, you at the very least need an attendant to guide them to the correct area if you decide to forgo the display at the entrance. Otherwise people will wander looking for their spots. Also consider people with the same names.

Go on Pinterest and see what ideas there are. You could do pretty tiles in your colors with permanent marker.

It would be for water service only. There are twelve guests and none of them have the same name.

The stir sticks are super cute but are a little hard to read IMO, so you might wind up with people touching a bunch of them to read them better.. ew Smiley smile

I agree with PP that the stirrers would be hard to read (though super cute!). I've seen a similar idea where guests' names are laser cut from acrylic and placed on top of their plates and I went to a wedding expo once where someone was writing people's names in calligraphy on geode slices with magnets on the back - either of those would definitely be heavy enough to not blow away in the wind!
