Alternative reception ideas?

Kellie, on January 25, 2021 at 9:18 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
My FH and I pushed our wedding back a year to May 2021. With the circumstances not changing any time soon with covid, my church has set up a tent outside which we are allowed to have our 85 guests attend and spread out with seating. That’s the easy party of our big day. The struggle is the reception which we decided immediate family only. That hard part is celebrating with my family and with his family separate. His parents have had covid and my family has done excellent with isolating themselves inside our tiny bubble of family only. My parents have agreed to host a dinner party for my side of the family as the house is quite large. His family is mostly from out of state and his parents house is too small. We thought brunch/lunch in a park but from my understanding, most public restrooms are now closed due to covid. So we are at a dead end with finding a Place to celebrate the day after our wedding with his family. Are there any other couples out there that have had a similar experience or anyone have some ideas we haven’t thought about? Thank you.

How big is his family? Are restaurants open where you are so you could make a reservation and have a nice lunch or dinner with them in a private room or at an outdoor dining area of a restaurant?

My family is 18 people. His family is 16 people. We thought about a restaurant with outside seating. We are uncertain what CA dining will be like at that time. Personally we haven’t eaten out in about a year. So we aren’t really sure currently what the outdoor dining is like.

Understandable. So just thinkIng out loud ... I’m going to ask a far out question ... would the church let you use the tent for a reception as well? If so, and they only let you use it for the day of the wedding, could you switch the order of the celebrations so you celebrate with his family the day of and your family the day after (since your family may be local)?

My church does have a hall. We did ask them last year when were set to be married if we could use it. They said no. So I don’t think they would let us use the tent. We didn’t think about his family celebrating first. That’s a good point that I will discuss with him.

Well, I’m a firm believer in asking and making someone tell me no. You never know — they might feel differently since it is a tent. If you ask them and they say no, you’re in no different place than you are now, but what if they say yes? It doesn’t hurt to ask. 😊

You could do a reception later. It is so normal right now or do just immediate family and bridal party and then big reception later. It is so tough right now!!!
