Alternative Wedding Songs...I am having the hardest time

TripleRock6601, on April 11, 2016 at 4:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 42

I am having the hardest time picking songs to walk down the aisle to. I don't want anything cliche like a "here comes the bride" or the popular songs like the Christina Perri 1000 years.

I would prefer something a little more alternative and (maybe) totally instrumental. I swear I listen to hundreds of songs this weekend, and found nothing. Anyone have any suggestions? or maybe a good place to look?

What kinds of music do you like? Do you and your FH have a movie that means something special to you? I walked down to "Tristan and Yvaine" from Stardust because it is one of "our" movies. You could look to film scores for instrumental inspiration. I also recommend looking at artists like Boyce Avenue if you want more alternative covers of songs.

I'm walking down to "All You Need Is Love" by The Beatles. What are some of your favorite bands?

We both listen to punk/rock/metal, I do want something that grandma enjoys as well. Smiley smile So, I started looking at some instrumental/piano versions of songs we both like, but it is really hard to find a legit download for a song like that, rather than a recording in someones basement!

I do really like the movie score idea and it isn't something I have totally explored yet, so I think I will give that a shot too! Me and FH are big fans of the TV show Lost, and I did find some kind of interesting music from there, but nothing that wow'd me yet!

Hmmm I also found an instrumental version of "You Had Me At Hello" by A Day to Remember. Although I am not walking down to this FH is using it as he enters/escorts my grandma to her chair lol. It was definitely a contender though. I found it on Youtube.

I feel ya. We wanted something that was slightly different as well. We had a harpist and had her play Nuvole bianche by Ludovico Einaudi (although we requested that she play it a little faster at the beginning since it comes off a little somber at first). It sounded amazing. Here's a good youtube version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEOJQawykD0

Keep looking, you'll come across something.

I used a unique instrumental solo guitar arrangement of the song "Parlez-Moi D'Amour" (speak to me of love) from the movie Sweet & Lowdown.

I do love when someone asks for something unique and people are like 'We're using "Marry Me!"" Sigh.

I am planning to walk down the aisle to a violin or string quartet version of "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera. I think we will walk back down to "Ho Hey" by the Lumineers

My cousin is in a very well known band here in Lubbock. He is putting his own little spin on "Can't Help Falling In Love" and singing that as I walk down the aisle

Check out the group "Simply Three." They do string covers of popular songs. Their version of Imagine Dragon's "Demons" is really cool. It could totally work for a wedding, but they have lots. Look them up.

I don't know if this is unique but I'm walking to La Vie En Rose--not the Edith Piaf version, I like the Daniela Andrade version. 1) it's in English, 2) it made me cry the first time I heard it and imagined using it to walk to.

Although that could have coincided with period weekend but eh, it's still pretty.

We are actually having an acoustic guitarist play our songs, instrumental only, so of course I love your idea! We decided on a couple Ben Harper songs, but I was thinking of cherry wine by Hozier. Quite a few of their songs would work well I think Smiley smile good luck!

After all these comments, I'm wondering:

Do you want "nontraditional" or actually UNIQUE?

We're using Velvet Underground "I found a reason". It's kinda classic/alternative and has a nice waltz tempo.

You can take a song you like, have it slowed down (if a fast metal/punk song) and instrumental.

One way I've discovered some new music is by using Pandora - enter a song you know you like and it will lead you to similar artists/songs.
