Alternatives for a DJ

Bekah, on May 1, 2013 at 5:13 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

We've decided that even though the right DJ can be a HUGE addition, the chances of a wrong DJ just aren't worth it. Any suggestions on where to gather good ideas for song lists (Pandora, 8Tracks, etc)? I've done lots of research, and I know we have a dancy pants crowd Smiley smile But we have a request a song option on our website, and a good friend of FH will MC, but I always like to make sure I'm not missing a brilliant idea Smiley smile

I'd look at your local radio stations most recently played list...

Maybe Spotify? I've never used it, but a lot of brides on here have made playlists that way.

I downloaded the free "my wedding music" app which gives you ideas & examples for ceremony & wedding basics.

I also downloaded the "my wedding DJ" app for like $2 & so far it seems great bc you can make a few play lists in iTunes & the app plays them where they fade into each other & sorts them by when u want to use them & has a seperate spot for ur first dance & other special songs. For $2 it's worth it & I'm renting a speaker for like $100 to play the music & having my sisters bf check here & there on it.

I'm just googling wedding reception music to get more ideas for songs. GL

Having a DJ really adds a lot to a reception. Having a bad DJ would be a disappointment for sure. Finding a good one really doesn't have to be that hard. With some initial research as to reviews, professional appearance, and package prices if available, schedule an in-person meeting, (one at a time).

The way this potential vendor makes eye contact, speaks clearly, listens to and addresses your wants, needs, and concerns will help give a comfort level to believing that you'll recieve what you're looking for.

DJs are people just like anyone else. The best way to get to know someone is to meet in a comfortable, non-pressure atmosphere.

I totally respect someone not wanting a DJ for a few obvious reasons of limitations, but don't avoid one because you're afraid you won't find the right one.

Just remember that the songs you want to dance to are very different than the playlist of a radio station or your Pandora/Spotify. You need to cultivate a good dance song list.

Even hiring a human jukebox DJ who won't speak and has to play your songs might be a good idea.
