Alternatives to a ceremony and other traditional wedding activities?

Alig24, on December 14, 2023 at 2:27 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
We ended up having to cancel our original wedding, are already legally married, and want to keep this celebration small. We’ve primarily been leaning towards just doing a restaurant buyout reception. Having the whole shebang with ceremony, cocktail hour, parent dances, cake cutting, etc. feels a little overkill for our needs. However, we want to do SOME stuff to make it feel more like a celebration of our wedding vs a party where I happen to be wearing white. I really want to try and put a creative spin on traditional parts of a wedding, but I’m struggling to come up with any ideas!

I love the idea of the restaurant as a reception space. I would make a list of the items that you want (DJ? dancing? wedding cake? toasts?) and then find a restaurant that can accommodate.

    Congrats on your marriage!

One couple had their reception at a coffee shop normally closed on Sundays -- i think was the way they did it.

We’re actually lucky enough to be near some gorgeous restaurants that could do a full ceremony, cocktail hour, etc. setup. It’s more that we personally aren’t really into the idea of having a traditional wedding since everyone already sees us as married so we just want more of a party. We’re trying to come up with silly, alternative ways to honor those wedding traditions without actually fully doing them. If that makes sense!

Well, silly isn't actually quite the right word. More just fun or casual ways to do those same traditions without actually fully doing them.

Formal invitations, a guest book, live music, toasts/speeches. If you have photos or video from your wedding day you could display those as well.

I think having a party to mark the occasion is excellent as a stand alone concept. If you're into something like hand fasting, sand ceremony or other alternatives it might be cool to do that.

I get what you mean about "not silly", and I'm not suggesting these are silly, lol.
