Alternatives to and help with MissNowMrs.com

EdubbsWife™, on November 4, 2011 at 12:58 PM Posted in Married Life 1 13

I added this information in Will be Mrs B's post but Patricia suggested I give this information it's own post.

There were so many October brides, I thought folks would be interested/find this useful. It is a FREE site that helps you change your name.

http://www.bridekit.com/

There are some online versions a little cheaper than missnowmrs.com that input the information. http://www.kitbiz.com/ is one of them.

And if you do go with missnowmrs.com, use the coupon code PM080 to get $5.00 off

I'm confused why pay to have these services done? Is it the convenience of one stop shopping?

When you can download the forms from any government site and mail them in yourself. I do know when you go to get your new DL all you need is your BC and a copy of your ML. Just went with a GF last weekend.

@Mek, it is a lot easier to answer questions and have forms populated than finding them all and doing all the legwork yourself. Depending on how much of a paper trail you have, its harder than getting a Soc. Sec. Card and drivers license to change your name. The sites listed things I didn't even think about like professional associations, my church, etc.

Mrs. S start at Soc. Sec then go to Drivers license - I had to wait a day for the system to update - then start the letter writing/notification of everything and everybody else.

I wouldn't pay for this honestly; start with SS an then your Drivers license; change everything else as it comes in. It's not that much easier to use a clearing house, and it's not worth the money.

I did everything on my own. Was it a hassle? Yes. But was it worth it to me? Absoluetely. I just could not justify paying for something I could do myself. Especially since there is no time limit for most things. Technically you legally have 2 identities. Even Soc Sec and the MVD told me this.

Are there any free sites that just have like a checklist or something so you don't forget things?

The first one I listed is free - sorry I forgot to say that explicitly. I revised the post to reflect that. That was the point, that you do not have to pay for this. While some of the ones you pay for make it easy, there are alternatives.

For those of you looking for free try the first link: http://www.bridekit.com/ Very helpful. Very helpful.
