Alternatives to names “husband” and “wife” other than partner

Husband and wife sounds so old fashioned, but we don’t like “partner”. I’m leaning toward something like Companion. Any thoughts?

Thb, ”companion” makes me think of someone who takes care of and/or provides companionship to an older person.

Is there a reason your averse to husband/wife besides it just sounding old fashion to you? I would imagine most people won't realize you are married if you don't use those terms.

    What about just ”spouse”?

I like husband and wife. Or husband and husband, wife and wife, whatever....I think the terms have a ring of staying power, permanence, commitment. Partner just sounds so business-like to me, and companion? I don't know.....sounds more like a pet. Or a paid assistant.

To each his own, I know. It's just a matter of preference, I guess. But I don't see anything old fashioned about the terms husband and wife. Then again, I'm old, so....what do I know? Ha! 😎

Ok, yes, how did I not think of spouse? That’s what I’m going for. I just feel like there’s still implied ownership with husband and wife and I’m really turned off by that whole concept. I’m not having my dad walk me down the aisle because I don’t like the handoff moment and I’m just letting my dad give the first toast instead.

It does not have to be able property though. My dad and fiance have a good relationship. The way I see it is that after he walks me down the aisle and shakes Jim's hand, it is a moment between them as well. It is my fiance being accepted as part of the family officially and my dad giving the okay for someone else to take care of his daughter. It does not have to be that my fiance knows owns me.

Of course though, you can use whatever term you like! Most places will still refer to you as husband and wife though.
