Alternatives to wood slices and mirrors?

LanaKane, on September 21, 2017 at 10:56 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 18

Other than the standard wood slice or mirror, what else can you place under a centerpiece?

I am looking for ways to make a white lantern centerpiece stand out from the white linen tablecloth our venue provides.

Could you do doilies for underneath? I am sure you could find some nice ones in your color or a nice neutral ton. Or a small square of lace?

Also books are popular if they go with your theme.

Table runner, fabric square, books, cake stand, round tray, anything flat and around 12" in diameter should do.

I am doing mostly cake stands for mine since my mom has a huge collection of them. Goodwill and eBay are great places to find cheap ones!

What do you guys think about an organza table overlay? Is that too cheap looking?

Maybe put flowers or greenery around the base?

@lana do you have a pic? I find with organza it really depends on the fabric itself and how it looks. Sometimes its really elegant. Sometimes it isnt.

@Munchkin9218 here is a stock photo I found on eBay with the organza overlay. I'm not too sure how I feel about it... How would I go about getting fabric squares?

@BoudreautoBe do you have any pictures of your table mock-up with the cake stand? How thin/thick are the ones you'll be using?

My brother and SIL did scrapbook paper under theirs. They had a piece of scrapbook paper, books, and succulents in teacups. It looked pretty good--I liked the size of the paper (12x12) on the 60-inch round tables.

My florist recommended cloth napkins in a coordinating color to go under my DIY centerpieces.

I rented cloth napkins for like $.50 apiece to use as table toppers, and used candles in holders of varying heights. Looked good!

Hi. I used a square napkin. The website cvlinens.com has all different colors, designs, etc.

There are some beautiful round placemats. You can probably find one in your wedding colors. You could even get custom ones made on Etsy.
