Am i being Bride-zilla with my Stylist?

Chantal, on February 26, 2020 at 1:09 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 9

[bit of a long post] I contacted my hair/makeup stylist to see if they were available on 1/21, and they responded fairly quickly, letting me know they were available and giving me the quotes and whatnot for the services I was asking for. The main stylist is the one that runs their page, and she let me know that she was going to be taking a leave due to pregnancy and would be gone for my date, but they had multiple stylists and she would set me up with one of them instead, which I was perfectly fine with, since the reviews of the vendor complemented their whole team. After about a week of on and off communication, she sent the contract via email. I emailed her back the contract right away...and then silence.

I sent her a message through WeddingWire 8 days later, checking in, and three days later, she responded and said she just needed the deposit through Venmo, which I sent instantly as instructed. She sent me a text immediately, saying that she received the deposit and would get me set up with my stylist asap. I was like... great. Things are happening. Trial is getting scheduled soon. This was February 10th.

I heard nothing back from them. No text, email, or WeddingWire message. I just sent them another message via WeddingWire yesterday (because this is the only way I've been able to get semi-quick responses), over two weeks since our last communication, and asked if we could get scheduled for a trial. I got a response about an hour later (I'm pretty sure their main stylist is the one always responding), saying that I had been set up with a stylist but she would double check when she "got back to her folder," and she'd give me the contact information as well. I responded immediately, basically saying "great!" And then again, nothing.

I guess based on how long it takes them to respond, I should wait at least a week before reaching out again, but I'm frustrated with how long it's taking to get a trial scheduled. Is it normal for stylists to be this unresponsive? Am I being too needy since my wedding is May 23rd? My friend believes that they are just prioritizing brides with closer dates first, and I understand that, but another part of me really wants to get the trial scheduled so I can be at ease with figuring out bridal hair and makeup and move on to other things.

Please let me know if I'm overreacting! I don't know what's normal with stylists and if I'm being a bridezilla, it is good to know.

I would just call her and get all your questions answered at once and set everything up. It sounds like email isn't productive.

Don’t think you’re overreacting because I mean I’d be annoyed having to wait that long for a simple answer to things but a lot of vendors sadly are not great with being as responsive as we would like

You are not overreacting. It's almost March so I would for sure want that set up soon. I would call the place and ask to speak directly with the stylist you are working with.

Oh man, agreed! I'm trying to console myself with the hard facts that they have a lot of brides and I am just one of them. Annoyed.... yes. Understanding....also yes.

That's actually a really good idea and I am really shocked that I didn't think of it. Everything in my job is emails and direct messaging so sometimes I forget about the beauty of a simple phone call, haha.

Thank you, I am planning on calling as soon as I can. Hopefully I can get a hold of the right person and get some progress made on this. It's been over a month... it's hard because it's a DW technically (4 hours from where I live) and so I'm probably going to have to take time off to drive up and do the trial, since the stylist is near the wedding venue, but I've maxed out my PTO with all the other wedding shenanigans... it's an interesting conundrum.

Yay! I found it best to have a phone call prior with all vendors and have a list of questions & comments to bring up with them, then follow up with an email reviewing everything. A lot of vendors are SO busy year round and they get so many emails a day so it's hard to stay on top of it I think.

I don't think you are overreacting because if they are like this now, what is going to happen for your wedding!?

I'd probably agree with you about prioritizing. But I'd think they could fit you in for a trial and schedule that soon. But yeah, call. I work with emailing and messaging all the time, but sometimes if I get one after hours or on the weekend, I might forget about it. I will usually drop everything for a phone call tho if I don't have a client in front of me.
