Am I being too picky? (Ugly carpets in venue)

Ok, so I have been touring venues for the past few weeks. Today I went to a venue that was a good contender until I saw the carpets. My wedding colors are plum and orange, and the room has a vivid green carpet that I'm afraid will clash horribly. Here are some pics below. The first two pics are my color scheme, and the last pic is the carpet in the venue. Granted, I am still looking for venues, but the one other place that I really liked was stretching my budget ($6,000 just to rent the place, no catering or decor included) and this place is much cheaper. What do you think?

Yikes! Not a fan of that carpet at all. I picked a non traditional venue vs. ballroom for that reason. I also picked a church that has tile instead of awful maroon or green carpet too. It can look pretty bad in pictures.

Congrats! I am really happy for you and am glad that you kept us posted. I felt invested and wanted to know the end result. Smiley smile

I didn't realize this when you first posted but you are getting marry on Columbus Day weekend. I take back what I said originally about you having plenty of time. I don't want to stress you out but if you are serious about this place hurry up and book the venue so you can move on to booking other vendors. Vendors are hard to book around the holidays and some even raise their prices because they know they are in high demand.

Edited: To include the last sentence.

My date isn't really set in stone, but this place is open during the month of October, which is perfect. (I didn't realize October weddings had become so popular). But I get what you're saying because one place I toured was booked up for all of 2015 already!

I'm not in love with that carpet but I also don't think it's a big deal. Just keep the lights low and possibly add some up lighting.

No, you are not being too picky! My biggest concern is the carpeting and drapes. Totally understand you concern and totally agree to keep looking. That carpet is horrendous.

I like the $6K place better myself, however if its stretching your budget and the other one is cheaper, the carpet is not THAT bad. with dim lighting the carpet will be hardly noticable, and really if one of your guests comments with "man this carpet is hideous..can't believe she chose this", that guest shouldn't of been invited anyway. When I go to weddings/special occasions, I HARDLY notice the carpet, the only reason why i noticed it in your picture is because you pointed it out.

on the 6K one, does that include tables, chairs sand linens? Or do you have to pay for EVERYTHING yourself? If so, that is a huge hassle and can add up really fast, I'd stick with the less expensive one that includes more things.

The $6k one did include tables and chairs, no linens.

It looks like you've found a great place, so congrats. On the issue of the ugly carpets, they're quite visible in the light of day during a tour, but nobody notices them during the wedding when the lights are dimmed and the room is decorated. The eye is drawn up by the table decor.

I've wondered why banquet rooms choose these loud carpets. Because they are so common, there must a logical reason. The best conclusion I can come up with is that a solid color, neutral carpet would show every stain, spill, and lots of dirt. A heavily patterned carpet makes it easier to disguise that kind of thing. Since food is a consistent part of these rooms, stains will be as well. I also think the venues choose carpeting because wood, tile, or marble floors are far more slippery when wet. With staff running back and forth balancing trays, a slip could be a really bad thing. Plus, the upkeep on a carpet is far cheaper than refinishing wood floors or resurfacing/repolishing marble floor.

I didn't read the whole thread so I apologize, but I just wanted to chime in (at risk of repeating someone) that my venue doesn't have a nice carpet either, but we settled on it purely for budget reasons. Sometimes you just have to take a hard look at your finances and decide what's truly important to you. It sounds like you found a better place judging on the pictures above though, so hopefully this is a non issue now Smiley smile

That is some pretty tacky floor covering - but no one will ever notice it. Trust me, not one single guest will recall the carpeting the day after your wedding. It's just like chair coverings - no one ever notices.

Our venue carpet is hideous too. We're doing dim lights and uplighting so I'm hoping it'll distract from the hideous carpeting. All of the venues we visited except the ones with hardwood has ugly, busy carpet. I think they do that to keep from getting dirty with all the foot traffic.

Centerpiece, I used to work at a hotel that had multiple event spaces (indoor ballrooms and outdoor event tents). When we renovated, they installed the most atrocious carpeting. Think Alice in Wonderland on acid burgundy red carpet with HUGE rainbow colored flowers and swirls that looked like lilipads. The reasoning they gave was Maintainence, safety and stain coverage and comparability with a color scheme but I was always very skeptical it would flow with any decor it was so horrifyingly ugly.

    Edit: Added photos

When the lights are dimmed accordingly you will never notice the carpets. Go a step further and add LED Lighting which will allow you to further dim the ballroom lighting. djsoundwave.net

As a floral designer, green is actually considered a neutral color. The yellow in the carpet works well with the orange, being next to orange on the color wheel, and purple is across from yellow on the color wheel and makes them each pop.

I don't think it's a big deal, personally. Smiley smile Although, I always wonder why venues choose carpet in an area heavily trodden and where food is served (spills!), and why they don't choose a more neutral color without a print!

Update Again! I've booked a venue. As a bonus, I got a chance to see my wedding planner at work at the same venue, so I know my wedding is going to be awesome! October 17, 2015!! Here are pics of it again.
