Am i being too picky?

Sarah, on August 1, 2023 at 12:08 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
Our wedding colors are navy, lilac, and gold. Both of our moms were about to choose their dresses and both chose blue, one navy and one dusty blue. My future MIL wants to have bright red nails and toes to match the bright red lipstick she wants to wear. I’m not crazy about the color but I don’t know if I’m overreacting about it. Everyone else is choosing neutral colors (bridesmaids are doing nude with some sparkles). I’m planning to do French tips and my mom was going to go with a neutral color too (either French tips or a light pink/nude color). Our wedding is in 2 weeks! Help please!

Congrats on the upcoming wedding how exciting! Your color schemes sounds beautiful and everyone will look fantastic. Don't sweat the small stuff and in the big picture the color of your mil nail polish is not important. If you are all going together and she sees everyone else getting neutral colors she may change her mind but if not don't let it bother you. Nobody will remember what color her toe nail s were. Enjoy this special time, congrats again!

Sorry to say you have no authority over anyone’s makeup and nail colors but your own. The only way you could weigh in at all is if she were to solicit your advice.

Unfortunately you don't get to call the shots on anyone's wardrobe, other than the wedding party. I wouldn't think you'll ever even notice it at all anyway, as those are tiny details.

I agree with the others that this won’t even be noticeable. Absolutely worst case scenario, if there’s a little flash of red you don’t like in any of the photos, that is something that is super easy for your photographer to edit.

Thanks everyone. I kind of knew the answer but was trying to figure it out. Red is just not my color especially on the beach! I will leave it alone!

Hey there! So, first of all, congrats on your upcoming wedding! It sounds like you have some awesome color choices for your big day. As for the whole mom situation, I totally get your concern, but let's not stress too much. It's their day to shine too, you know? Maybe you could have a friendly chat with your future MIL and express your thoughts about the bright red nails. Who knows, she might be open to compromising and find a great color that still adds that pop she wants while not clashing with the overall theme. Remember, it's all about spreading those positive vibes and making sure everyone feels comfortable and happy. Trust me, everything will work out just fine! Have a blast and enjoy every moment of your special day!

You don’t get to decide what anyone other than yourself wears. Let this go.

it's a special day for everyone involved, and compromise can go a long way. Perhaps you can suggest some other ways she can add a pop of red that fits within the color scheme, like a beautiful accessory or a vibrant bouquet.

It's your wedding, do what you want. It's your day. It's not about them. If they're going to be showcased down the aisle and you're paying they should fall in line.

That's not how it works though. It's not just your day once you involve other people. Then their needs and feelings have to be considered too.

Also I don't think the OP is paying for her future mother in law's nails.

Thanks everyone for all of the advice/opinions. We moved on from this days ago. I had a moment (only because I don’t like red 🙃). My future MIL is amazing so please don’t think I feel otherwise! She loves to stand out/shine. She’s going with a pink (by choice after she asked what everyone else was doing). And yes I am paying for her nails! ❤️
