Am I crazy for wanting to DIY a Paper Flower Wall as a backdrop for my wedding ceremony?

So. I stumbled across this picture as I was looking for backdrops for my wedding ceremony. It's being held in an older church and even though they are going through renovations and will be done in time, I wanted to do something that would create a focal point behind us. I was going to do about 10-20 feet of plain white drapery to keep it simple but fell in love with this paper flower wall. I have looked everywhere to purchase one and apparently they are uber expensive (like $6-800) and I don't want to spend that much on "paper". As much as I love DIYs, this looks pretty time consuming (if I don't start soon). So should I DIY an entire paper flower wall or stick with the drapery and save the headache? Or use drapery with paper flower accents? I hope that makes sense lol.

    @Nadia - haha..no kidding

    OP, once you start making those flowers, it gets much easier as you go. I was thinking of doing something like that as well, but putting the paper flowers on an arch and using it during the ceremony, then move it to the reception area behind the head table. Have you BMs help.

    OMG @Nadia that sounds awesome though! I was actually thinking of making 50ft rose petal borders for both sides of the aisle runner. I can only imagine the 50 ft full petal aisle runner!! Hahah!!!

    White paper/cardstock is cheap, and you could likely do this for one ream. If you made 2 flowers a week starting now, you'd have plenty of time to glue/tie those babies to a piece of white fabric and be done by your wedding date. I'm on the hunt for a backdrop myself and I found this, which looks to take about $20 worth of pvc pipe and a hacksaw. I'm pretty handy, but I'm confident that I could put this together in about an hour:

    Good luck!

    See if you can find someone local on a facebook craft or wedding page who can make one. There's a lady in Omaha who was reasonable. We got a quote from her and for a 9x9 with tissue paper it was $300. Cardstock was $350.

    Hi There: OMG I just posted this same topic without realizing someone else had already brought it up. Yes they are very expensive. I was able to find someone on etsy here in Canada that will provide the flowers for a 9 x10 for $400. So right now I am debating whether it is worth it to do myself. HERE could be the deciding factor....where to store the flowers you have made?

    I have made two cardstock flowers, both from youtube and they are beautiful. But where to store them? I priced out boxes and that would be over $200. The girl from etsty says she would stack 50 flowers in two boxes and says they will only need the centres fluffled.

    We have a photographers backdrop frame. We have two options to attach to the frame. 1. glue the flowers to foam boards and then wire them to the frame and 2. hang the muslin from the frame and Velcro the flowers onto the muslin. This part my dad can figure out. lol.

    I am still debating doing it myself - storage is a real issue as my whole wedding is diy and the basement is full. Also, the reception hall says we can set it up after cocktail hour - duh I am kind of busy then?????

    Will be following this post closely - maybe some storage suggestions?

    Oooooh forgot to mention. Test the materials you are using for the flowers against drooping once they are upright. I tried construction paper and kraft paper as trial material. The flowers came out good - but the upper petals drooped once held upright. Not sure about tissue paper. Keep in mind the time difference between when you start making them and when they will be used.

    Ok so backdrop support seems to be a main subject. One of the people that sell this backdrop told me the use free standing adjustable clothes racks. I guess If you are using the foam boards it can surpass the framing so long as it is wired securely.

    @Shannon and Michael - I might end up making my own drape backdrop and just have paper flowers going across the top and draped down some on the side if I decide not do the entire paper flower wall. So I don't think storage for that would be that bad. But the entire thing? Yes would def need storage.

    @Nadia - Where are you getting all your petals and what supplies used to make sure it stays down but also not making it hard on you? LOL I want to know for my border.
